Would be nothing without that serve?

Was thinking similar as I watched him. There is a degree to which his serving is incredible but it is rather like watching Cheltenham undo us with long throws.

Fair play for this though

I watched the interview and was torn between he seems a genuinely good guy and he is playing the audience really well here. Probably a lot of both.

Well yes - but tennis is now a game of big serves. Gone are the days when it was a game based on artistry, deft touch and Robinson’s Barley Water.

Yeah very polished interview, a part of me wanted him to strip down and start windmilling around centre court. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt and assume he's sincere though, semed like a nice guy and to be fair to him I thought his serving was absolutely out of this world, but he played some nice tennis outside of that too. Couple of lovely little drop shots etc.

Indeed, and the rules seem to help the big servers. There was one serve that flicked the net and Murray returned really well, but because of the net had to be re-served, and of course it was an ace.

Once Murray got into rallies, it was clear who was the much better player

Think he's always shown himself to be good sort throughout his career to be fair.

His serve is by far his biggest weapon and he's nowhere near the player he used to be either, was a battle of 2 people playing against age as much as each other.

Andy Murray has provided a golden period for British tennis, I really didn't think I'd ever see a Brit win a Wimbledon singles title. In any other period he would have more titles.

Hmm...I don't know if you remember the period at Wimbledon between about 1985 and 2001 when the men's singles was invariable won by a big server. Agassi was the one outlier in 1992. Breaks of serve were rare, tie breakers plentiful & a 5 shot rally was exceptional.
However, most of the champions such as Becker & Sampras, had a lot more to their game than a big serve as you had to be able to return the ball as well.

Agassi being the outlier was because he was a baseliner. Edberg wasn't a big server but he was very effective serve volley player because he put a lot of slice spin on his first serves. He was quite the artist, probably the most stylish tennis player until Federer came along.
