Any non-Tories on here who shop at Waitrose? on 20:16 - Jul 28 by Warkystache | Oh I am - you know me well. I made my own southern fried chicken tonight (chicken thighs, various herbs and spices and a breading) served with home-made coleslaw which included apple, celery, cabbage, carrot and local cherries and a home-made mayo. But I got all the ingredients in Morrisons in Harwich on Tuesday. Paula loves KFC - I don't. She got in at 6.30pm and I've been off all week. Tel and I had lunch in the pub earlier so I'm sort of full up still. |
Could you do 3 cooked vegetarian breakfasts for about 6 on Sunday morning please?

Any non-Tories on here who shop at Waitrose? on 20:30 - Jul 28 by Warkystache | Sounds good mate! I made Huevas Rancheros the other Sunday morning - eggs poached in chilli-tomato sauce with a few splashes of Tabasco and Worcestershire then served in a corn tortilla with grated extra-mature cheddar and a sour cream sauce I made from yoghurt, my mint and some of my chives. It was messy but lovely - she keeps asking for it for breakfast before she heads off so it's been a normal week of early rising - used to that though (hehehe). |
That should do the job. Not too spicy though all things considered! [Post edited 28 Jul 2022 21:06]

Yeah, probably. I live in Lawford though so I'm a bit of a trek from Sudbury. We'll be in Dedham to watch you all - I'm still looking out for a bloke with two younger women walking like John Wayne, aren't I?

Is it? I never knew that. Do the yummy mummies realise they’re shopping with commies? I’m well out of of my comfort zone on this, as our nearest is about 40 miles away. West Wales doesn’t get luxuries like Waitrose.

Well that’s no help, we’ve not got a John Lewis within 35 miles either. It’s probably a serious point. City centre shopping in Swansea is very poor. Cardiff is good, but Wales’ second city here is utterly shoite. We do have a very good indoor market, but little else.

Any non-Tories on here who shop at Waitrose? on 20:23 - Jul 28 by jeera | Good to hear you're still knocking up the good food Tashers. I'll do a bit of fried chicken here and there when I can be bothered. Cleaning the fryer out isn't my favourite job but it is worth the effort sometimes! Chicken as you say, fish and chips (chips I usually do in the oven but you can't beat chips done properly in the fryer). And onion bhajis/pakoras used to be a thing but haven't bothered for a while. Always make my own coleslaw too, sometimes with halved grapes, maybe some cashews, that kinda thing. |
Chips done in the oven like this can match fried if you tweak a bit and get it right. A lot of work for basically some oven chips, but they are damned good. https://www.bbc.co.uk/food/articles/Perfect_oven_chips

I always prepare chips that way! Soak in salted water and a change of water for the par boil. Never too much trouble. Same prep for both. For roast potatoes I boil those with a clove of garlic or two and some thyme. Maybe a few peppercorns too. Toss them in more garlic and thyme and sometimes rosemary in rapeseed before roasting.* But as far as chips go the freshly fried chip will always be best in my opinion. * For the pedants, yes it pays to prepare the oil in advance. Not many organisations would tolerate a minion doing the exact opposite to what he was told to do - then deliberately ask to be sacked on national TV BUT Waitrose is as socialist a business as you can probably find in the UK with even the humblest toilet cleaner being part owner. That gullible people choose to shop there is merely a profitable business strategy

Any non-Tories on here who shop at Waitrose? on 20:01 - Jul 28 by jeera | I quite like Morrisons. They have a decent meat counter where you can get some of the bits you can't find most regular supermarkets like bones for stock etc. Reasonable money too on the regular stuff. I'll use Waitrose when I'm near one but that's only as and when. Waitrose really suits people who can't be bothered to cook and do a nice range of ready made foodstuff like M&S. Facters likes it. I'd have you down more as an ingredient hunter than a typical Waitrose punter tbf. [Post edited 28 Jul 2022 20:06]

I love to cook and we very very rarely have a ready meal. I made Dollers Veggie Cottage Pie Surprise last night - the surprise being it was made with beef mince. We shop at both Waitrose and Morrisons... because they're the two nearest supermarkets. And sometimes when one doesn't have something, we go in the other!

Any non-Tories on here who shop at Waitrose? on 20:16 - Jul 28 by jeera | I'll have a word. Car Parking in Bury is a rip-off. What happened to encouraging people to come into town and spend? If you're having a mosey about you want to do so in a leisurely fashion, not be looking at the time every 5 minutes worrying about some trumped up car park charge. |
I'd like to suggest parking in Haverhill an getting the bus into Bury. Perhaps drop into Bennys BBQ for some quality greasy chips on yer way home
