Statistical comparison with last season 15:08 - Aug 6 with 41052 views | Nthsuffolkblue | If we take each match as a comparison replacing the promoted and relegated teams with those directly replacing them ... After 1 match we are +1 point, +3 GD and -1 GF. Today's match Forest Green replace Gillingham who we beat 0-4 away so we that is our "par" score. Of course, we won't improve/match every result all season but overall we need to be up something like 20 points by the end of the season. I will try to keep tabs on this after each match.

Projected total based on current PPG / GPG... 29 matches: 87 Points, 86 Goals Might turn out to be an important point come the end of the season, but the Sheff Wed game is looking like a must win now to have any chance of the automatics, particularly with the run that Derby have put together. Stats are all well and good, but when you live in the moment and look at our current form that tells you all you need to know. Wednesday - like Derby - are in the ascendency, us at the moment are struggling to show any level of consistency and seem incapable of winning two consecutive games. Based on the last 10 matches, we sit 9th in the form table and haven’t won any away games during that period. Comparisons to last season are fine, but we can all see we are nowhere near the team we were in November. Play Offs look the most likely outcome for us, the battle for the automatic places will be between: Wednesday, Plymouth and Derby in my opinion. [Post edited 5 Feb 2023 8:35]

Another par when we need a birdie. 30 played. +18 points. GD +20. GF +17. Par score for Valentines Day 2-0 win. If we get a par from here to the end of the season, we would have 88 points, +41 GD. Last season that would have put us 4th. We need to improve on par over the last 16. COYB!

Statistical comparison with last season on 14:48 - Feb 12 with 3959 views | BlueBoots | Projected total based on current PPG / GPG... 30 matches: 86 Points, 86 Goals Bit of work to do now to get to 100/100...after 15 matches, projected totals were 101 Points and 86 Goals, which I suppose highlights the end of the pitch where our problems lie... About two thirds of the season gone, so a few stats, and comparisons between the first and second thirds, and with last season... 1) Scoring 1.87 GPG compared with 1.46 GPG last season. (1st Third 1.87 / 2nd Third 1.87) 2) Conceding 1.03 GPG compared with 1.00 GPG last season. (1st Third 0.80 / 2nd Third 1.27) 3) 1.87 PPG compared with 1.52 PPG last season. (1st Third 2.2 / 2nd Third 1.53) 4) Effectively about 10 points "in hand" on our points total for last season (70 points from 46 games = 46 from 30...currently 56 from 30) So to summarise, although we had a very good start to the season (and we've continued to score goals at a consistent rate all season), in the second half of the season so far, we've only picked up points at the rate we did last season (just over 1.5 points per game), and our defence is actually worse, conceding 5 goals for every 4 goals we would have conceded last season. Really hope we can turn this around, and still make a challenge for the automatics, but these numbers show it's a bit more than a "blip" or loss of form. Key priority seems to be a bit of back to basics tightening up the defence, as we're scoring consistently and have improved on last season in that area. COYB

I think a couple of other factors to consider include: we played a lot of lower teams in that early part of this season; we have just played most of the top sides in the second third. We have 5 matches against top 10 sides (none of them the top 3) and the other 11 are against lower sides. We have also had a bit of an illness and injury run. We need to return to our early season form but there are some reasons why it might be possible for us to do so.

Wasn't that disappointing! Sorry for being knocked off my stride in terms of updating this. It feels much less positive now as the numbers begin to drop. 31 gone. +16 points, GD +18, GF +15. Projected total based on current PPG / GPG... 36 matches: 92 Points, 89 Goals I started the 100 Points, 100 Goals countdown clock (jokingly) after the FGR game...since then we've gone from needing to W14 D1 L0, to 10 games remaining, so 9 Wins and 1 Draw needed now (and 3 goals per game) We're up to exactly 2 PPG for the season - they always say win your home games and draw your away games (which equates to that) to succeed, so frustrating that there are a couple of teams currently doing better than that. Whilst 2nd place got 93+ in those two seasons, 87 and 88 points would have been enough for them to finish ahead of 3rd place. It would be a truly extraordinary season if a team obtained 93 points and were not automatically promoted.
