Statistical comparison with last season 15:08 - Aug 6 with 41053 views | Nthsuffolkblue | If we take each match as a comparison replacing the promoted and relegated teams with those directly replacing them ... After 1 match we are +1 point, +3 GD and -1 GF. Today's match Forest Green replace Gillingham who we beat 0-4 away so we that is our "par" score. Of course, we won't improve/match every result all season but overall we need to be up something like 20 points by the end of the season. I will try to keep tabs on this after each match.

Still healthy totals and ones that a good free-scoring winning run will soon turn even better once again.

23 played: +23 pts, GD +23, GF +17. I think we got our entertaining goal fest to get us back on track. Par score for Thursday evening (that's a strange day to be playing - reminiscent of the UEFA Cup campaign) 4-0 win. Any win would be a good result.

Are those stats all relative to where we were in the same number of games last season? So we’re 23 points up? Bonkers if so. I bet we struggled to get 23 points at all under Hurst/Lamberk.

No- it's a direct comparison with the equivalent fixtures last season eg last season's home game against Oxford compared with today's result, and so on for all 23 matches we have played. But the three teams promoted from last year's L1 are replaced by the three relegated from the Champ, (play off replaced by bottom of Champ etc) and the three relegated from L1 are replaced by the corresponding teams who were newly promoted from L2 at the end of last season.

They are comparison with the same fixtures from last season and they really are bonkers aren't they? I am still not sure how much they are testament to how far off the pace we were or how good we are this season. I think it is a bit of both really. We are a point better per match on average over half a season. Continue that and we would have 46 more points - 116! OK, we aren't going to manage that (we would have to win every match to get 117).

They were all at home whilst we were away tho, which perhaps makes it a slightly less disappointing comparison.

25 gone: +19 points, GD +18, GF +15. Par score for Plymouth another 1-0 win. Disappointing to have dropped to 3rd but there is a long way to go and I am confident reinforcements will be through the door before too long. Projected total based on current PPG / GPG... 25 matches: 92 Points, 86 Goals Seems to be a lot of panic on the board after today's result; we're currently averaging exactly 2 points a game - if we continue that for the rest of the season and that's not good enough to win automatic promotion, then fair play to the teams above us... After today we could do with a birdie against Oxford. Plenty of time to go, but we really don't want to let Sheff Weds and Plym get too much further ahead or they will be v diff to catch. Plym may even have gone as this was the reverse rubber and chance to cancel out their win against us at their place.

Projected total based on current PPG / GPG... 27 matches: 87 Points, 83 Goals "Eating into the advantage we built in the first half of the season" Recent form is indeed a worry, but for whatever reasons this started a while back. Splitting our season so far in half (prior to yesterday's game), our projected totals based on that form would be: First 13 games: 106 Points, 96 Goals Second 13 games: 74 Points, 74 Goals As you say, really need to get back to winning ways soon, particularly with key games against teams in and around us coming up. Projected total based on current PPG / GPG... 28 matches: 89 Points, 87 Goals Much needed win, particularly with Sheff Wed and Derby both having won 5 on the bounce. Still think the matches against our closest rivals will define our season - thought 10 points from the Plymouth, Sheff Wed, Derby, Bolton and Barnsley games would be a statement of intent for the automatic spots; just the point in the home game against Plymouth has made that a harder task, but let's hope yesterday will help us put a run together.
