Yes probably quicker chartering a boat and watching from the middle of the sea than driving.

If you are going to drive to Manningtree anyway you might as well keep going cross country to Thorpe and get a direct train from there.

Norwich to London. To get to Clacton you would need to go to Colchester, change and then back out to Clacton.

go by train,then you have no excuse not to go visit the Clacton beer festival running at the same time then :) http://www.tendringcamra.org.uk/clactonfest.html

only downside is you cant watch the air display at the same time as its not on the seafront, so visit after its finished
