Graham Potter verbally agrees chels job... (n/t) on 10:31 - Sep 8 by Mediocre_Quick | He was being coveted by the FA for the England job before Chelsea came calling, The FA are, or were a little surprised that he was approached for their job and are now scrambling for a back up plan |
"Scrambling" for a backup plan for a vacancy that doesn't exist? Really?

Graham Potter verbally agrees chels job... (n/t) on 11:46 - Sep 8 by pointofblue | Will be interested to see who Brighton replace him with. If we were in the Championship, I’d say McKenna would be a decent bet. Think they may repeat the trick of before and look abroad. |
12 months down the line, assuming we're promoted and continuing to impress, this is exactly the sort of role we risk losing KM too. Let's hope that's the case in many ways.

Graham Potter verbally agrees chels job... (n/t) on 11:20 - Sep 8 by WeWereZombies | Although, are Chelsea that big a club nowadays ? They have not had the success level of Manchester City or Liverpool of late. In London they seem to be overshadowed by the glossy front of Spurs and the continuing endeavour of Arsenal. They have never had the global reputation that Manchester United still, to some extent, enjoy. Even Newcastle's new found wealth makes Chelsea's previous reliance on a Russian seem like faded glory. I do not disagree that Chelsea is a step up from Brighton but that is all it is. Maybe Potter sees it as a necessary year or two of drudgery before he gets a shot at the England, or Real Madrid, job ? |
Have they ever been a genuinely big club? A very rich club since Abramovich and now the new mob took over. Look at their crowds from the early 90s. 9k at home to Coventry in 1994 as just one example.

They had a good side in the late sixties and early seventies.

Graham Potter verbally agrees chels job... (n/t) on 10:37 - Sep 8 by hype313 | But if you look at the ownership and what they have done in the US, especially with the Dodgers, their current manager has been there for 7 years and just signed another 3 years. Think in this case Tuchel just wasn't their guy, but it's not to say they will be trigger happy going forward. |
Obviously an extreme example but look at Cook here, got the boot quicker than anyone expected but doesn't make new ownership trigger happy - they may have just wanted their man in and KM a much better fit

Yes, he was being earmarked by the FA to be southgates replacement, doesn't have to be a vacancy for a manager to be shortlisted should the vacancy come up

Graham Potter verbally agrees chels job... (n/t) on 10:16 - Sep 8 by Guthrum | Not so good if the job is a pain with overexpectation, an interfering boss and only lasts six months. But he probably thinks he can make it work. |
The Chelsea job is the football equivalent of winning National Lottery "Set for Life" Get a 3 year contract on squillions £s get sacked after 18 months, but you are set for life... No brainer Doesn't tarnish employability, least not for Lampard

Graham Potter verbally agrees chels job... (n/t) on 12:09 - Sep 8 by hoppy | My reckoning is they could go back to Nathan Jones, having done pretty well at Luton, since he was last at Brighton, and with his previous connections and time with the club, wouldn't be a bad fit. |
I don't think Nathan Jones is the type of manager who would succeed at a higher level. He's naturally confrontational and that works at Luton, especially in the Championship where they are a small fish, but I can't see it being effective higher up. He failed at Stoke with one of the best squads in the league. Reminds me a bit of Hurst coming in from Shrewsbury and rocking the boat.
