I agree on more rational grounds but don’t think it’s much to do with politics. There’s an even deeper identity issue here that’s also wrapped up in some saint-like reverence for the monarchy.
I don’t personally agree with it or feel anything like it, but I get that many will feel very strongly and emotionally about this, and as if they’ve lost an actual family member. Royalty and the Queen in particular is very ingrained in a lot of people’s sense of themselves and the world around them.
On a related note, I don’t imagine the reality of Charles as king will help prop up the system like the Queen did. But I think that discussion can easily wait until people have had the time to mourn and deal with the raw emotion and even real grief some are no doubt experiencing.
I agree with your point about Charles. I suspect he will be relatively bad news for the institution and a reason the Queen did not abdicate. I know arch royalists who can’t stand him due to the Diana factor.
I HAVE TO RESPECT SOMETHING FOR ONCE FUNK SAKE!!!!!!
That is pathetic.
Btw. I didn't mind either way! Sometimes you just have to respect decisions. Do something else with your Saturday! You might enjoy it!
I had a train ticket and hotel booked for this weekend which I can't get a refund for. The main reason for me heading up this weekend was to celebrate my Dads life with my brother after he passed away in April.
We're town fans because of him. So it would have been nice to go ahead with the plan of watching the game, staying in Ipswich overnight then head to Aldeburgh where he was born to scatter his ashes on the beach. The game was all part of how we would have wanted to celebrate his life, and now I have no idea when we can fit this in again. Could do it in November when it's cold and miserable.
Why should we have to do that though? Why should the way we want to mourn our Dad have to be changed because of someone who's never affected our lives in any way whatsoever? So when you suggest "Do something else with your Saturday! You might enjoy it!" maybe consider a little harder why people are upset about these plans being cancelled...
But why postpone it? What is the point? Is everything else shutting down then? Restaurants? Cafes? Supermarkets?
We can all pay our respects in our own way, absolutely no reason what so ever that it needs calling off.
As for me and my weekend, I will end up on a lovely walk with my Wife and Kid somewhere, probably a bit better than you crying in to a hanky in your bedroom.
I'll be doing something else into a hanky now there's no football

Mrs Oozami's Dad died last week and we have a similar situation - I've had to get extra tickets for Tuesday (I'd already bought them for tomorrow!) so her family can see the tribute to him (season ticket holder for nearly 40 years) on the big screen. We're lucky though as the family are either local or travelling up from London so not a major inconvenience for everyone - but I suspect our situations are replicated with many other fans of other teams all over the UK.
Just an aside, the date shown for the rescheduled Cambridge games is 25th December!
You are the obsolete SRN4 to my Fairey Rotodyne....
