Poor Charles on 11:58 - Sep 10 by GlasgowBlue | It also nips in the bud any debate about the future of the monarchy. |
I think there are a few people in this part of the world who’d have liked them to use the opportunity to not follow convention by scrapping the Prince of Wales title. No chance though was there. No messing, bang done.

All you can do is go with the flow and look for some peace and time for reflection afterwards. |
Absolutely so true. That's how it was for me. No-one arranges this stuff for you. I assume Frimley, you've not had to deal with this yourself? Identifying the body, registering the death, arranging the cremation or funeral, having to contact family & friends you haven't spoken to for years & have lost their details. Arranging the funeral day, the wake afterwards. Finally, it's all over. That's when the grieving starts, when everyone has gone & you're all alone. It can last for months. Probably a two month process. It was for me. Charles is ok. Long live the King!

I'll put it away then. At least the prospect got me aroused enough to clean the mud off it.

Apart from the identifying the body, yes I have, only 4 months ago. What I didn't have of course was the immediate expectation of tv appearences, speeches, gatherings etc. I completely get why as others have explained, it just seems so wrong so quickly. but that's a personal view. will add, that was an in law, not my spouse. I fear that Carry On humour is about all I can manage these days. I know it's a low level, but I really struggle to get it up any more.

I bottled a speech at my dad’s funeral last year and asked the vicar to do it. Most unlike me, but I just couldn’t face it being the only direct family member in the spotlight and having to look after the kids as well. God knows what it’s like for him, although he’ll have been groomed and well-prepared for this. Even if he is used to the public appearances, it’s still a horrible time for him of course. But that the nature of the sacrifice, like the Queen at her husbands funeral sat in her own with every camera on her. In her 90s as well. Just shows how mentally strong they are.

Swansea, I have done a fair amount of public speaking and presenting, to large audiences somethings too. But I bottled it at my mother’s funeral. I wrote the Eulogy and was, though I say it myself, proud of it. I wanted to deliver it but I couldn’t guarantee I’d get through it, so chickened out. The Rev delivered it and he did it beautifully. Do you know what? I’ve no regrets whatsoever. It was about the story I wanted to tell, not about an audience hoping I’d get through it. Big up to Charles for doing that. It required, as do future days, an enormous discipline and strength.
