What's annoying about their equaliser. 15:29 - Sep 25 with 2366 views | TheBoyBlue | Is not that it was a foul on Chaplin, because it wasn't. He went looking for it and rightly it was ignored. Rather it is that every time - EVERY time - that teams do it to us, the ref blows up. The number of times over the last three years I've seen teams do it to us when we're in a promising attacking position and the ref gives a foul. The one time we do it and suddenly the ref starts doing their job. Unbelievable.

Or you are saying he was a Premier League quality ref. It makes no difference why Chaplin positions himself between the player and the ball. The player shoving him over is a foul.

How does he hoof the ball clear without actually getting in front of their player between him and the ball?

It's not though. We get annoyed when other teams do it to us and the ref falls for it and rightly so. He runs into the Plymouth player looking for it. However, my point is that refs have to apply the same rule to us, but they don't. Typical.

You get in front of the player and hoof. Not get in front of the player then look for him and fall over at a touch. However, we've had that happen against us and refs have been happy to blow up and give free kicks. I loathe those free kicks as they can actually be considered obstruction against the defending team. It's not today's decision which grates for me as much as the inconsistency. Suddenly it's ok, when it hasn't been for so long? [Post edited 25 Sep 2022 15:36]

Precisely this. Decision was right but has to be applied across the whole season. Ironically, we were possibly the victim of the ref actually being good today.

It is not just a touch. He sticks his arms out and shoves him over.

Exactly. Consistency is all we ask for refs.

It's not the Plymouth player giving the touch. It's Chaplin.

What's annoying about their equaliser. on 16:01 - Sep 25 with 2029 views | LankHenners | Made the point on another thread - those types of comings together aren't consistently officiated and defenders do it a lot when they're under pressure to buy a cheap free kick but we can't really complain when one of those is reffed properly. Just annoying that it leads directly to a goal for them.

I'm not complaining that its not been given, it is the right decision. I'm complaining that we never get them our way, especially when we've got a team under the cosh.

I'm not in the habit of blaming refs for dropping points. Even the obviously poor ones against Barnsley and Sheffield Wednesday we really should have finished both games off and the blame for those was on our lax finishing. Today we were unlucky in a game that both teams could rightly claim to deserve to win, regardless of whether you think it was a foul on Chaplin. However, I'm more annoyed that those constantly go against us and the one time we could've done with it going our way, a ref finally decided to do their job.

What's annoying about the ref... on 16:40 - Sep 25 with 1745 views | Basuco | After Edwards tame shot 0n 88, their keeper took 55 seconds to release the ball, since when did referees allow that amount of time wasting! That has to be a record from save to kicking the ball away.

That is a general thing that refs seem to let go now and is annoying, I'll accept that! Although I guarantee as soon as we do that we'll get a ref who comes down on it!

What's annoying about their equaliser. on 17:26 - Sep 25 with 1490 views | OldFart71 | By taking Ladapo off we had no one to hit with the long ball and we were messing about in defence trying to play out from the back and they had turned around what we had been doing to them by closing us down at the back. But rather than spreading out we were trying to play one two's in dangerous areas. We missed Burns on Donaciens side as we seemed very vulnerable with Donacien being isolated on several occasions.
What's annoying about their equaliser. on 17:50 - Sep 25 with 1389 views | clive_baker | TBH the most annoying bit for me was before that, KVY received the ball in their box and thanks to his touch like a trampoline they can break at pace when we’ve committed men forward. He was miles off it when he came on. It was a hard game to come off the bench into because of the pace of it, but that was a questionable call for me.

I can't blame McKenna on that one - I was calling for KVY for Harness at half time!

And yet when a referee plays more than was shown on the board (Liverpool-Newcastle) and a goal goes in, there's uproar. Admittedly it was mainly Newcastle fans. I've banged on about the time issue for years. It's laughable. I get you're never going to get a genuine '90 minutes' of football, but we should be able to expect to get proper stoppage time, not stoppage time minus a hundred more stoppages. Even from a paying punter's point of view, fans are essentially short changed.

Because everyone benefits from it from time to time, and the majority seem to accept it as 'part of the game' and that because the stakes are so high you accept cheating if you can get away with it. Anyone impartial who watches an average EFL game will easily find 10+ free kicks that are just bought, they're not fouls. Lee Evans, for example, does it every week. PL refs supposedly have been told to wise up to such antics and allow a bit more contact. Is that supposed to have filtered down? I don't know.

What's annoying about their equaliser. on 18:31 - Sep 25 with 1107 views | ArnieM | Had that tackle on Chaplin been done by one of our players in our box against a Plymouth player, I’d 100% expect this ref to have given Plymouth a penalty today. We got very little by way of decision for us from this ref. It seems to be happening well in week out now. It’s become the norm. Goals disallowed , opponents given clear offside goals. Maybe we should run a poll each week : “ in which minute will the ref give a pivotal decision against us?”
