If and when I see ITFC at Wembley again, I want it to be in a competition or game that there is some pride in winning.

Not sure that winning a competition that you have to be a failure to enter (relegation plus failure to get promoted) is a source of pride.

I do not suppose that Wigan, Rotherham and Sunderland are devastated because they could not enter the Pizza Cup this season.

It’s a matter of perspective. To National League teams who have just come up and more established League Two teams, qualifying for this competition is not a mark of failure. Likewise many of the teams competing in the Europa League consider it a burden brought on by failure to finish in the Champions League spots. Is it possible to celebrate winning the League One playoffs at Wembley given it means we failed to win automatic promotion from the third tier?

With all that said it is an embarrassing competition because it includes PL U21 teams, bizarre rules like an extra point for winning a shootout and is consistently sponsored by crap companies. I will be going next Tuesday however, because I live in Cambridge and this the best chance I have of seeing Ipswich at the Abbey. I’d forgotten that we’d already ‘qualified’ though so I expect it will be a chance to see some of the second and third string.

In the same way, I have actually welcomed the prospect of Town getting drawn away in the early rounds of the League Cup against the likes of Stevenage & Luton as it gives me a chance to see a relatively accessible game, no matter how dire the Town performance.
Don't think I would attend a Pizza Cup game though, especially with the dreaded group format. Like many, I probably would attend a Wembley final, unless it was against an U21 side.

You are correct that being in this competition at all is only a sign of failure for some teams, ITFC included.

I do not think that winning the League One Playoff Final would reflect the fact that we failed to win automatic promotion because the end result would be the same.

I think winning at Wembley in 2000 was better than going up automatically but you DO need to win the Final for that to be the case, obviously.

I was at Goodison for that game and Town took the whole Bullen End.....(I was in it as an Everton fan)

There were quite a few Ipswich at Goodison in 85, it kicked off outside after the game if I remember rightly.

You’ll be waiting some time then pal.

Are you honestly saying that you won’t go to the final because you’re waiting for us to get to the FA cup final?

Course Sunderland, Wigan and Rotherham aren’t devastated. They got promoted! Last I checked we are a league one club.

I am honestly saying that The Pizza Cup is a competition that I have no interest in.

That was exactly my point about Sunderland, Wigan and Rotherham, they did not fail last season therefore they did not have to enter the Pizza Cup.

So failing to win a competition that we are in because of failure is better that winning a competition that we are in because of failure . Sorry you just cannot decide which fixtures are first team and which are not it just does not work like that check your fixture card Pizza cup is a first team fixture . You are of course free to have no interest in whatever first team fixtures you want to ignore .

Thank you.

I will do that just like the other approx 20000 ITFC fans that have been going to home league games but not home Pizza Cup games.

Obviously, KM does not think the Pizza Cup is as important as league games otherwise he would pick our strongest available team for the Pizza Cup games.

I would think and hope that the team picked on Tuesday (if that is when the game is) will be even weaker than usual with a first team game on Saturday and another one the following Friday.

No one has suggested that Pizza Cup is as important as the league but that it is not meaningless to most as you have said ! Your figures are wrong add together the attendance plus those that paid for ifollow plus those that listen on Radio Suffolk you will see you are wrong .

You have got me there!

Just because approx 20000 ITFC supporters that go to home league games choose not to go to home Pizza Cup games does not mean that they are ALL not interested- just maybe me and a couple of others.

Unnecessary. No reason to doubt PJH's views on the competition or his non-attendance at any of the fixtures.

hey…I’m fully aware of his commitment to the Town and record of going home and away is admirable…just wondered if he would pass up the opportunity to see the Town grace the wembley turf….

Could you not say a Play Off Final was a failure to get automatic promotion?!

It would be a failure to get automatic promotion but if you win it, you have got promotion anyway.

Obviously, the key to making a success of the playoffs is to win them.

I saw us play at the old Wembley three times, well twice plus the Charity Shield, and I would love to see us there in a Play off Final, assuming that we won it.

I think it would be very hypocritical of me to consider going if we got there in the competition that this thread is about.

No doubt if we progress in this competition, interest from some will increase but I do not see me being one of them.

Well we are all Town fans and for me the best way to support the club we love is to do just that support them every game . If we get to Wembley in any competition it would be great to see thousands of Town fans enjoying a win all would be welcome of course. A win tomorrow is what is on my mind now .

Changing the subject slightly, I think maybe one good think about this cup is the players' behaviour.

I watched two Colchester games last week. First was against Harrogate at home in the league. Desperate stuff. The ball never seemed to be in play for more than a few seconds at a time. When Harrogate got a goal back to make it 2-1 Colchester pretty much gave up trying to play football at all, and used every spoiling tactic under the sun, including instructing the ball-boys not to leave their stools.

Three days later, Gillingham away in the Pizza cup, - both teams staying on their feet, nobody claiming a head injury, nobody in the ref's face, no five-minute goal celebrations. It actually resembled a game of football.

I think a Cup run in this competition is very important, it keeps the (large) squad fit and pushing the starters - and if we get to Wembley it's good practice for the PO Final if we were to end up there as means players can expend most of their nervous energy and wonder of playing at Wembley for 1st time in a match that isn't going to be devastating if we lose

I'd view a Pizza Cup final, a good experience potentially for future play-off scenarios

It's a useful experience surely, a day out and a final at Wembley which we are yet to experience since the rebuild

Alcohol is the answer but I can't remember the question!
