Bird thing: I've just seen a swift over my garden. 08:09 - Oct 24 with 2356 viewsGeoffSentence

Which is very late for them, they generally start to fly off to warmer climes in July.

Blimey....are you sure? I saw swallows over Thorpeness in November last year.

Absolutely no doubt about it, it was low over my garden and flying into the wind so wasnt going anywhere too fast, got a good look at it. Their body shape is very distinctive.

Maybe the southerlies of the last few days have blown one or two stragglers back to these shores.

Quite incredible Geoff. I wonder if it is a hand reared one.

17 degrees here today and feeling much warmer in the sun, 4 days before November. It's going to be 30 across large parts of France tomorrow. It's all gone a bit pear shaped. Ok we're a week off, but as it is now you could have bonfire night in shorts and a t-shirt.

Maybe it’s just arrived? I’ve got loads of similarly confused trees that shed their leaves in summer and have grown new leaves and blossom on autumn. Any swift passing through France might be thinking Spring is on the way.

It could be a pallid swift Geoff. There have been a few in the country the past few days.

I think you saw a rarity. According to Bird Guides there has recently been an invasion of Pallid Swifts, not normally found in the UK.

Interesting, although I got a decent look at it, it was not enough to spot anything that might have verified it as any particular type of swift.

I wonder why it is pallid swifts coming to out shores on the back of warm weather rather than common ones.

Probably due to climate change. No other reason why I guess.

There you go, I wasn't going bonkers. Or if I was, lots of other people are going similarly daft, possibly an effect of the warm autumn weather.
