How big a loss will it be if Evans is out for a while? 12:29 - Oct 24 with 1620 viewsFrimleyBlue

For me, the Cambridge league Game really showed the differences in passing attributes Lee has over our other midfield options, we had missed his diag balls, especially Davies who had a ton of space on that left side but Ball never picked him out. I think Evans has created the most attacks in the league from midfield too ( that may be slightly wrong, but there was something floating around about high % figures of passing)

Personally, im slightly concerned that whilst Ball and Humphries are capable midfielders, Ball of course alot more experienced... are we about to lose something that has been so influential for us so far this season.

I think its not just the range of passing but he gets us playing at a pace that's so much more difficult to play against too. He sets the rhythm of the drumbeat, the tempo increase was obvious when he came on against Cambridge.

You saw the difference in a match in which Evans played 45 minutes and Ball and Morsy did not appear and we had 10 men? I am sure we have cover for Evans. Having to cover Morsy at the same time is a concern and tomorrow night will be a challenge.

He is a big loss. The safety-first option would be to replace him with Ball, but Humphreys brings more attacking threat and especially a killer pass through the lines.

I think we need to hope that Camara is up to speed very quickly if Evans is out for a substantial chunk of the season.

No. I was talking about the league game. Sorry forgot we played them in the cup recently.

TBF we've now lost our "dynamic duo" in the centre of the team. Potentially a very much reduced driving force. I think we will notice this, a lot.

With Morsy also suspended we might need both tomorrow.

Moving forward I would imagine it's Morsy & Ball if Evans is out longer term, it's a bit annoying that we've got both missing tomorrow. Port Vale aren't a bad side, it's a tricky one so a big ask of Humphries if he does come in.

Morsy the bigger issue, but I think Ball will be an excellent replacement. He's more than good enough for the league.

Evans has been one of our best players this season.

It will be interesting to see how Ball and Humphreys get on. Does that lead only Camara on the bench as a midfield option? Didn't Burgess start off as a midfielder back in the day too?

Big, and it doesn't sound great, the good thing is that our schedule for the next month or two isn't terribly packed and Ball is an excellent replacement. Even though DB isn't as progressive a mover or passer, he should ensure we retain our foothold in games.

That applies to tomorrow night, which looks dicey without Morsy/Evans but doesn't look too badly balanced with a Ball/Humphreys partnership as long as they get off on the front foot. A draw would not be a catastrophe tomorrow.

That fact that we are even thinking this is credit to how far he’s come under McKenna. Cook may have brought him in but he couldn’t get him playing like he is now.

I'm not overly worried about it although it depends a bit on how long a "while" is. Ball's good enough to allow us to be solid and keep the ball but lacks the same passing ability as Evans. We've only got 4 league games until December so if he's out until then it's not the end of the world, and 3 of them (starting tomorrow) are potentially very tough away fixtures so there may need to be more of an emphasis on keeping things tight and winning duels which is pretty much why Ball is here.

With both him and Morsy out tomorrow it's asking a lot of Humphreys to be the link between midfield and attack.

Just because I don't care doesn't mean I don't understand.

We have and tomorrow will be a problem, I am sure. The point that I am making is about the "if Evans is out for a while". I didn't say he won't be missed but between Ball and Humphreys I don't think it will be as big a blow as it might be otherwise.

As for Makin's point about the Cambridge performance from last season, I don't think we can take a lot from last season's matches. This season has been completely different for no end of reasons.

I think Makin was referring to the Cambridge league match a couple of weeks ago.

I don't think Ball is a downgrade at all, given his Championship experience. It may just be that we will have to play differently but that be no bad thing and McKenna is a master at that.
