…the Tory party are right wing?
Not good or bad or whatever in between; right wing specifically.

Does anybody still think that Chico is actually clever?

Not good or bad or whatever in between, but 'actually clever' specifically.

They do a lot wrong that's for sure but I wouldn't say they are right wing. I think the left are so dominant in their views that unless you agree with everything they say then they see you as being a right wing racist bigot. Just my opinion

It’s not a left wing budget if that’s what you are suggesting? They are still ideologically shrinking the state.

And yet, all that tax we are now paying. Not that raising taxes is inherently conservative or right wing if it’s spent on the sort of thing a proper conservative government would spend it on like grammar schools and defence.

Edit; can you provide examples of them ideologically shrinking the state? Do we have for eg fewer civil servants now?

Their main problem is that they are mostly incompetent. They've flecked the economy so badly they have no wriggle room.

You do remember that they're only raising taxes today because they crashed the country eight weeks ago?

Or are you pretending that it was a different lot that did that?

What is it you like best about the Tories? The open bigotry? The corruption? The crashing of the economy 3 times in the last decade? The criminality? The fact that you'll be Footersing the bill for all of the above?

You don’t think that they are right-wing? So the hatred of asylum seekers, the casual xenophobia, demonising of the poor are all in the middle of British politics? Not only are a lot of the Tory Parliamentary party right-wing, they are also incompetent and corrupt.

I don't recall saying I like the Tories. In fact the only time I referenced them was when I said they get a lot wrong

I think they are right wing given how much everything has moved to the right these last 40 years.

I'd probably regard Labour as right wing too, because it is difficult to think what they would have done differently today.

Both believe in neoliberalism including failed privatisation which today has added £5.8 billion to our energy bills with the OBR revealing the cost of the bail out of Bulb Energy.

As for me, I have not changed my beliefs since 1974 (when I didn't support the left in the Labour Party), but that probably makes me a Marxist these days.

Privatisation is neoliberalism not right or left wing. It is often also seen as pragmatism by neoliberal idiots.

If we ignore all the things that are massively associated with right wing politics that they do and stand for, they're actually further left than Labour.

While they are in some ways peas in a pod on many things, I struggle to find any area where they are to the left of Labour but maybe I'm missing something.

This is a good post and I broadly agree but importantly, I think we need to focus on what they *do* in government rather than what some of their members may think. Certainly for many years now they have grown egalitarianism and taxation, shrunk the armed forces, and grown the size of public sector employment.

But look at the state of public services, including pay. At a time of a growing and ageing poplulation, spending in the NHS has barely risen by more than 2% in real terms since 2010, when it rose about 8%, under Labour, and has never fallen below 4% since the War. Many departments have had substantial cuts since 2010.

But you'd never know what was going on, because no-one seems to care about the state of public services.

I might add that it's not like this in other European countries.

Maybe it's their policies supporting the tractor drivers of Bungay.

Whereas I enjoy reading what you post and you have very interesting insights into the NHS - can you time down the personal abuse? It’s not a good look and comes across as arrogant and condescending.

You make me laugh badger. You make out as if you're so tolerant and diverse but if someone has a different view to you then you become the nastiest b###ard on the forum.

You always create hostility in this place with your hatred and personal attacks on people who have different views to yours.

No doubt you will reply and say I'm Hitler, it's what you do.

Sorry guys but it needs saying and I'm sure people will have the same view as me
