And yet, all that tax we are now paying. Not that raising taxes is inherently conservative or right wing if it’s spent on the sort of thing a proper conservative government would spend it on like grammar schools and defence.

I think they are right wing given how much everything has moved to the right these last 40 years.
I'd probably regard Labour as right wing too, because it is difficult to think what they would have done differently today.
Both believe in neoliberalism including failed privatisation which today has added £5.8 billion to our energy bills with the OBR revealing the cost of the bail out of Bulb Energy.
As for me, I have not changed my beliefs since 1974 (when I didn't support the left in the Labour Party), but that probably makes me a Marxist these days. [Post edited 17 Nov 2022 17:24]

Certainly for many years now they have grown egalitarianism and taxation, shrunk the armed forces, and grown the size of public sector employment. | |

But look at the state of public services, including pay. At a time of a growing and ageing poplulation, spending in the NHS has barely risen by more than 2% in real terms since 2010, when it rose about 8%, under Labour, and has never fallen below 4% since the War. Many departments have had substantial cuts since 2010.
But you'd never know what was going on, because no-one seems to care about the state of public services.
