Unless they could use £750-£1m to put towards someone else, and the player fancies a pay rise….

No way will Swansea sell him.

....most of their angst seems to be directed at our Phil.

Outrageous accusations.

He's arrogant apparently.

Phil does have a certain swagger, but do we think it ever steps into arrogance? I'm not so sure.

Actually, I was trying to work out what that poster thought was arrogant, all I can think of is the observation that Town could probably pay a bit more of Whittaker's wages.

If the shoe was on the other foot and all that.

The slamming Hammers aspect aside, which you can put down to ignorance, they have a point. It seems a deliberate ploy to unsettle the club/player, surely no party other than ITFC would benefit from the switch?

Are you suggesting Phil is acting as some kind of agent provocateur?

Not actually sure that’s an image I want to conjure up

Swansea still owe us money from the Flynn Downes deal so could be an ideal bargaining tool

Agree with their sentiments if it were purely to be a loan. A loan with a buy on promotion clause at an agreed fee or an outright purchase now would be different. Happened to us with Ryan Tunnicliffe and it's what we did with Kieffer Moore

If I were Whittaker, I'd probably agree with them. He's doing well there, he's getting games, it's good for his development. Who's to say the same would happen here? If a loan is going well, there's a lot to be said for leaving well alone.

See also: Simpson, T

Having said that, I'd love him here, and all's fair in love and league one...

Here is my recollection: Simpson's loan was going well until his manager there got him to ask for a permanent move. ITFC weren't happy about that and ended the loan. Simpson wasn't happy about that. Impasse.

I think ITFC were right to not be messed about by a club that we were loaning to. Ashton has a "I just won't deal with them in the future" approach, I believe.

Swindon didn't ask for a permanent move. Town offered Simpson a contract which he turned down. We recalled him to persuade him to sign it. If he'd have signed it he'd have gone back.

They dont realise that if its written on here its usually got some legs 99% of the time. Its not very often waffle.
For me, l think he should stay where he is. If he moved on to us whos to say his form doesnt go out the window.lf he is happy he should stay put.
