Have to question that lineup tonight... 22:22 - Nov 22 with 5286 viewsITFCBlues

And why so many key first team players featured. Harness now injured for probably a fairly lengthy period of time in a completely unnecessary situation.

How big an impact will that now have on our season in an area of the pitch we're now very short in.

There's a balance to be struck between club and fans and had we fielded an U11's side, all those that paid for tickets and attended would have moaned like feck, rightfully (unless they were notified of the massive changes well in advance). The club and the gaffer have shown the fans some respect and it's cost us another injury to a key player.

I think McKenna would have put out a vet's 11 tonight if he thought he could get away with it.

We may have to pay over the real value of a player. Can we really do it? We have to as you say. If we fail to do so and subsequently fail to get promoted then some people will be using injuries as an excuse for McKenna.

No excuses ! Full stop ! Promotion is a must.

I wonder if we can offer 'stupid' money to sign Whittaker. Not a loan. Just the permanent one. He would be a monumental signing.

Are you really saying that in his first year as a manager if he doesn’t get promoted we should sack him?!!!!

Sorry, but if I was McKenna I would have picked a largely U23s side and accepted any flack that came my way.

With the auto promotion places looking like 3 into 2, we simply did not need another injury or bump in the road.

I think that is about how much the team could have been rotated without just putting a load of kids in there which not sure would have been right thing either

Same will happen on Sunday, at least the games are spaced out at the moment because of WC so have time to recover before next league game

Indeed, also I think they will want to give all the senior players one or other of the cup matches to keep them up to speed ahead of Fleetwood.

Yes. Cook's task was an immediate promotion after the big number of players he had signed in the summer 2021. He was failing and got sacked. Why should the different critetia apply to McKenna if he fails?

I don't disagree, if it was me, I'd have fielded a load of youngsters and take the £5k fine from the league, but that's easy for us to say, we don't know what the message was from Ashton and the top brass, would it have soured relationships for Ashton with the league etc etc? I would have liked to be a fly on the wall when this was being discussed internally.

As I said before, it's a balancing act, because pre-season fans want a cup run, so the gaffer fields strong'ish sides to progress, then all of a sudden it bites us in the arris when we have a load of injuries and we'd rather not have to play the games at all.

I just hope we manage to find some quality and get them through the door early in January, cos we're almost at the point of having more crocked players than fit! I don't think it's entirely surprising given the style that McKenna has adopted, it's an attritional style of play, both to the oppo and our own players and will see a regular churn of players through the course of a season. The good news is that the system allows for a smooth interchange of players (using the new statistical recruitment model) that shouldn't really see a dip in overall team performance.

Cook failed because we were going backwards. Everyone can see the progress we have made under McKenna, and will hopefully continue to make.

You can't simply give a manager a single season and sack him if he fails to get us promoted. On that basis, we wouldn't have enjoyed the success that we had with Ramsay, Robson, Lyall and Burley!

We've played 2nd XIs and kids in the cup competitions for years, hasn't particularly helped our league form, nor has it contributed to particularly stellar injury records.

Players pick up injuries. It happens. In matches, in training, at home.
Players also play 50 games in a season without an issue.

Personally, I'm happy with our current approach. We have a Performance Team that keeps track of everyone's physical state and communicates who's available. We then put out competitive teams from within our first team squad that look to maintain a constant standard.

Depends what league we are in next season.

If it's league 1 then regardless of how lovely the football is.. he would have failed.

a niche perspective
