If we go up this season 10:09 - Dec 16 with 3795 views | Cheltenham_Blue | What do we think? Season of consolidation aiming for a mid table finish, before going for it in 2024/25 or, Immediately active in the transfer market and go for it straight away? I'd prefer to add a couple, and give the squad we have a chance, but who knows.

If we go up this season on 10:28 - Dec 16 by unstableblue | I think we’d strengthen in the summer with a view to having a positive season, with a goal to definitely stay up but see how far we go, how high we finish. Championship is a weird league at the movement, tightly bunched, not many stand out teams. One way I’ve been looking at it, is that Town under McKenna are far far more suited to the Championship than League One. That’s why we need to get out ASAP. This league can be tricky, and I don’t want McKenna to give up his ethos just to get out. Our style is going to match Championship teams who are going to play a bit more open and try and come at us, rather than sitting deep and paring the bus. My concern though is that the step up in attacking and central midfield quality of the opposition is significant in the league above. You get punished more often and more quickly. And Morsy becomes an oK player rather than one of the best in the league. Donacien, Wolf, Burgess/Edmundson are good, but will they be good enough? We’d probably have to improve half the team. But I still think this team, with a better striker, a few more additions and McKenna management could place well. GOT TO get out of this league first. |
Totally agree with the sentiment that we're more suited to Championship than League 1. And I think KMcK is not likely to be swayed by many offers, I think he values the opportunity to build something over a few seasons here. COYFB!

I'm pretty sceptical every time this idea comes up. It usually transpires that it's harder to play football against better teams.

If we go up this season on 17:56 - Dec 16 by southnorfolkblue | Championship standard isn’t great. Norwich are 4th and they are garbage. A lot of the bigger clubs are having to dramatically tighten their belts. If we go up, we’ll be right up there next season as I reckon that the owners will really go for it. |
We will no doubt “go for it” should we get promoted this season which by the way is no formality despite our current strong position. It’s easy however to get carried away and expect us to be up at the business end of the Championship next season. We’ll need to be stronger fitter and more adaptable against some well established Championship teams and let’s not forget, many on here expected “HMS piss the league” to smash this league in one season.
If we go up this season on 09:40 - Dec 17 with 343 views | FrankfurtBlue | Interesting thread. Firstly, one step at a time... let's get out of the third division first. However, I don't believe for one moment that our recruitment team, and the management and ownership above them, aren't considering players for next season, either for another season in this division or, more likely, the championship. I think that we will be already aiming to recruit better quality players in January, and many of us will be surprised at who we are targeting. It would be easier to recruit better players in the Summer, but if it is possible to get that standard of player in January, then it will be done, as there are clear advantages to doing it, e.g. having a better chance of promotion this season, using the SCMP rules in League One to invest, and gelling a team earlier for the transition to championship football. I also believe that the Rotherham game will be a great opportunity to test where we stand versus a pretty poor championship side. We should be beating them at home. I think it has already been shown, especially in cup competitions this season, that some of our players will not be good enough for promotion chasing in the championship. All in all, these are exciting times that we could only dream about a couple of years ago!
