1) Morgan Whittaker
2) Mark McGuinness
3) Aaron Collins
4) Michael Cooper

Now if we got that 4, THAT would be a statement
Would free up Woolfie as holding midfield backup.

Outgoings:
Ahadme on loan
De-register Ball for season
Jackson (sell)
Hladky (sell)

he is getting consistent rave reviews at Weds. Our biggest weakness is that we ship goals too easily. He was only 20 I think when he was here, and would also benefit from our coaching. And seriously hurt Wednesday.

“Our biggest weakness is that we ship goals too easily.

You do realise we’ve conceded the least amount of goals across the entire EFL in 2022?

Burns is the worst defending player at the club, costs us a few goals, lightweight fouls, poor positioning, and always seem to get in donaciens way rendering him out of position,

Burns is the most league 1 player we have at the club, attacking and defending. We must have someone come in this window to rotate with him

You have KVY, Edwards or Jackson, I can't see that being a first priority?

Surely it's Striker and/or a Number 10 and a central midfielder?

Alcohol is the answer but I can't remember the question!

"He is a top draw championship keeper with Prem potential."

what have i got wrong about what you said?

"You don't become 5th choice keeper in the champ" - This bit. This isn't an opinion this is just demonstrably wrong. He had played about 80 consecutive games in the champ before signing for us as 1st choice. The last season for Blackburn who were narrowly outside the playoffs. Brighton weren't keeping him on the books for fun, they really rated him.

He's still young for a keeper. Has been outstanding for us. That we got him was a real coup and primarily down to A relationship with our manager at the time. Thankfully he seems to have a real rapport with McKenna as well.

So that bit is what you got wrong. Other than that, great input.

As I said above Cooper is decent. But we don't need him.

On this occasion we will agree to disagree, he's not a good defender, makes the run back then what,

2 seasons in the championship doesn't make him a top championship keeper with prem pedigree, he finished 5th bottom with wigan and 11th with blackburn not just outside the playoffs.

Brighton rated him so much they had 11 keepers in the time walton was contracted to the club.

Walton is an ok keeper, like many of our players, he's a good standard for this level. I disagree that Cooper wouldn't be an upgrade based on current performances and years ahead of him, Walton is at that PRIME keeper age and has shown alot of weak points this season, If we do go up, I think we could see a new keeper, especially with distribution being a big thing for the type of football we play.

No, no i agree with you.... I said most league 1 player, not best. He's extremely average, yet because of 1 good season most don't see his weaknesses.. same with donacien, who is a solid enough defender... but for someone who's role is to be so advanced - his lack of ability with the ball is a problem imo.

We have a lot of solid players, solid league 1 players.. But we need better

Five teams in League 1 have conceded fewer than us this season.
The mean defence of the second half of 21/22 season isn't performing the same in 22/23.

You said he was a 5th choice championship keeper. You were factually and probably wrong. My opinion is he is good enough to play in the champ and has 'potential' to play in Prem. I'll stand by that. He was absolutely outstanding last season and a top champ team would happily have him in my opinion. I believe there were decent champ teams interested in him when we managed to secure him perm (certainly linked).

This. My OP was that we not only MUST get promoted this season but we need to be building a squad to compete in the Championship. The American owners / Three lions will now see their initial optimism as being fully justified, and American investors are not timid. I think we will see some eye watering signings.

Problem is, people get really precious about their personal favourite players.

We've seen all over the forum different opinions on 'where' needs better players, yet you mention players and there doesn't appear to be any that people want replacing... other than apparently ladapo who's been scoring and on route for over 20 goals.

There also needs to be a degree of realism. League One and January transfer window not the perfect scenario for attracting the players I think you might have in mind.

It’s ok saying we’ve the money , we’ve got Ashton negotiating selling the dream etc - inevitably you’re still asking those “higher grades “ players to buy into the dream half way through a season

We’ll do well to get any QUALITY champ players on perms in my opinion in a Jan window

who would've thought after last season that Burns could be coming under pressure for his place? Last year he looked like a Premier League player in League 1, this year he is but a shadow of last year. Thing is, you can bet that the Americans will be ruthless, they will expect success. We can't keep playing players week in week out if their form has dropped based upon what they did the previous season. 5 teams conceding fewer than us this season, and that is with us typically having 70% possession. We are the top scorers however. So imho, its the back line which needs more attention than the front line.

you don't become 5th choice keeper in the champ if you are of prem pedigree. Walton is quite low on saves made to shots etc, and he's distribution is very ropey.

He's an ok keeper, better than Holy, better than Hladky, but he's not the amazing keeper people make out imo.

This 'downer' on Walton is incredible. Him and Cooper are the best keepers in this league end of discussion. When Walton is playing well and looking his commanding self he's without doubt a Championship keeper and at 27 he's still got his best years ahead of him. I'm more than happy with him to be our No.1 for a good few seasons yet and so should the majority of our fanbase.

People always ask for stats etc.

So this one shows only 2 teams in the league have a lower shot save %. IF that's true.. how does that make him one of 'best' keepers in the league?

Cooper btw is with 78% and TOP.

I think we will be a bit more solid when Evans gets fully up to speed, a good free kick and the same old hail Mary undone us at Portsmouth, but we looked more aggressive with Evans covering, Burns n Davis good going forward get caught out defensively, why Evans is so important,

Stats can work for or against an argument so I don't really pay too much attention to them if I'm being honest. I simply watch how he keeps and I have always been impressed with him. Every keeper has 'iffy' spells, but he does a lot of things well. I'm sure if you ask most if not the majority of managers in L1 if they'd want Walton as their No.1 they'd bite your hand off!

I don't want to much of the prem tbh, catch a few of the Bigger games occasionally and MOTD but not enough to pay to much attention.

Oh right ok. Was just gonna add to the “argument “ that Nick Pope has most clean sheets in the Prem but how many would suggest he’s the best in the league that’s all

Sometimes not all stats add up

out of interest, what's his shot save %? I don't tend to think much of cleansheets as imo that's a team effort ( Of course that depends on shot save % as if you are keeping cleansheets, whilst leaking shots at goal but your keeper is keeping them out.. then that's says more about the keeper than the team imo.
