Kevin Sinfield, a working-class sportsman from the North, ran 7 ultra marathons in 7 days to raise a shed load of publicity and money for MND research. He received diddly squat in the New Year's Honours.
It's a disgrace. I'm not on Twitter, but perhaps someone might like to start a #KnighthoodforKev campaign?

As well as rewarding the successful, the privileged, the connected and the ass-lickers, it's a way of keeping the plebs in line. And its arbitrary nature makes a complete nonsense of the whole system.

I've done lots of marathons and ultra marathons. I once did 2 in 8 days and it really took it out of me for weeks.
Doing one every day for a year is an enormous physical and mental achievement.

It’s a ‘meh’ on the honours system from me. But having said that, if anyone deserves more recognition it’s Kevin Sinfield. He comes across as a living angel - a heart the size of a planet. I expect he doesn’t expect or want the attention though. |  |
