While I understand what Blue Action are trying to achieve and bring to Portman Road, and I'm sure many will agree too. I can't help feeling they'll run into issues wherever they move to.

Traditionally the 'older' or 'quieter' generation would be in the Cobbold Stand for a better view of the game etc. I'm not sure they will be too impressed either.

But I think a lot of the issues relate to the simple demographics of the support, the part of the country and Suffolk etc. We're not going to be wild, loud, partizan support on a regular or huge basis.

I know you've seen Palace etc break the mould. But London area is a different breed to "Sleepy Suffolk" type folk.

You may and do improve the atmosphere at Portman Road games, but I fear you'll never reach the levels you're anticipating because Suffolk/East Anglia just isn't that vocal hotbed you want it to be.

You obviously weren't at the Play Off semi against Bolton. Outrageously loud, and Fergie always used to say how loud PR was.

The issues for me are Acoustics with the two tiers and the fact that there seem to be two factions of fans in one stand starting different songs.

Watching the Rotherham game from Sir Alf Lower I felt sorry for any fan who was behind the flag wavers.

While I applaud the good intentions of Blue Action they do need to be careful of getting on the wrong side of other fans as disharmony between fans is counter to what Blue Action are trying to achieve.

Trying to move towards the centre of SBRL is counter productive and with rising attendances the opportunity to relocate, as a group, becomes difficult. Block A does seem a solution but I am not convinced. No way are the club going to allow a large group of fans to stand in upper tier for 90 minutes.

Hopefully the club will bring in rail seating sooner rather than later and offer season ticket holders, in the selected area(s), an opportunity to relocate next season without haveing to pay extra for the first two seasons.

I was actually, and I was in NS3 right behind the goal.

But I'm talking on a larger scale, looking at a bigger picture.

That is over 20 years ago...it was also the old north stand so fans had a roof above their heads which helped contain/amplify the noise. We have lost some of the atmosphere by creating a two tier north stand.

How many times did Fergie actually say that?

Thanks for the post mate, you've absolutely nailed it. Appalling behaviour from that bloke and if one of our lads had done that, rest assured, they would have been hauled in and given a 3 match ban. He also made a disparaging comment about me being a teacher at Chantry. I teach some wonderful, talented little human beings and spend a lot of time trying to build the esteem and self worth of many who have not had a great start in life. So whoever you are pal, get in the f**king bin...

While i'm here, let me make something abundantly clear about the flags: we will have usually 3 or 4 flags that are waved MOSTLY when the ball is out of play. Occasionally they're waved when in play, say, when someone takes a throw in on the halfway line or a couple of centre backs are passing it to each other, or on the rare occasions a chant reaches a real crescendo. THEY HAVE NEVER BEEN NOR WILL THEY EVER BE WAVED WHEN THERE IS GENUINE GOALMOUTH ACTION...

For those of you who bleat and moan about having your view of some inconsequential bit of play obscured for a few seconds, two points: we've been there for 2 seasons now. You know what we're about. If you don't like it -move. If I sat in the family enclosure and b1tched about how dead it was, I wouldn't get any sympathy. I'd be told to go somewhere more for me. The only concession i'll make here is that it's another example of how appallingly the club handled the whole move. We begged them to make it more of a 'thing', back it officially and make it clear what we'd be doing in there, but as always they fobbed us off, giving us the minimum concession without actually having to do any work...

Secondly, guess what: i'm sick of looking back at 600 glum, silent faces for 90 minutes every game. If you were to draw a Venn diagram of people who wet themselves about flags and people who neutralise the atmosphere by standing about in silence it would be one big circle...

I'd also like to put this argument to bed that because you've been based in the various iterations of the North Stand over the last 50 years it gives you some god given right to dictate how things are supposed to be conducted there forever. And think about WHY you're even there. The North Lower is not what it was when you were a teenager, and you probably moaned about old duffers who told you off for singing crass songs about Norwich and pulling w@nker signs at the away fans (or worse). Things change, and must continue to change. Do we want McKenna to keep coaching as it was done 50 years ago? Or should Mark Ashton scout the next big thing in a local park? All-seater stadia were an absolute catastrophe for atmosphere in grounds. As long as they're still in place we have to think creatively if we want to keep football grounds lively and interesting. Otherwise we just get the polite, genteel atmosphere of a rugby match or a tennis match - and who wants that..?!

But don't worry loyal North Standers, you hopefully won't have to put up with us much longer. We had hoped to be the uniting force in the North Lower but it's clear the fans don't want it, so we're going to fight tooth and nail to f**k off somewhere else. We'll be trialing the Cobbold Upper (block A) for the Burnley FA cup game, somewhere we'd had our eye on from day 1. I have no faith that the club won't balls it up somehow (was supposed to speak to our club liaison about it yesterday morning but he never called), but hopefully it's the first step in finding us a permanent, long term home. If watching football is for you more than just an idle, passive passtime, then i'd urge you to join us...

I started off in the churchmans, moved to a mixture of lower pioneer west stand terrace / north when I thought I was hard (13-16) then stayed in the north until early forties before moving back to the churchmans, as I felt my singing/limbs days were probably behind me. To my blinkered eyes, modern day lower north should be reserved for the boisterous: it’s known throughout football as the main home end of ITFC, and I’d like that tradition to continue. As for BA, I will be forever grateful to them for reinvigorating the atmosphere after at least a decade of it being a bit of a library, and for the part they played in letting the club know how dissatisfied fans were with Lambert / the Evans regime. At the twilight of the Evans era BA were a beacon of hope to me in an otherwise sh*t time for the club.

Only just seen this Slambo as have avoided the forum after the game since I posted earlier in this thread on Saturday evening.

Very interested as to the plan for the Cobbold move. Not sure the club (more so the police) will want it because of the proximity of the away end. Obviously the acoustics will be improved from there but the issue is that the police will absolutely do their best to stop it from happening for a magnitude of petty reasons. If you can get it off the ground in the first few games, I’d be interested in joining the good fight. As you say, plenty in the north just don’t seem to want the big wild atmosphere that a big game like Saturday should provide. It was there for a few minutes at the start of the game but it so quickly died down. It’s a real shame.

I think section 6 and the warp around corner which it’ll undoubtedly end up being when the Cobbold is re developed, will be a good ( large) area for the Section 6 group to be “ homed”. It will infiltrate Lower SBR, Upper SBR and the Cobbold stands…it’s already does, and even the Magnus stand joins in much more now. Things are building … but it takes time. You can’t just expect to bamboozle your way into a section of the ground and expect everyone else to be moved aside to accommodate. It has to develop…and it will…IS.

FWIW, Ive been a North stander all my life, and I’m 64 now. I’ve been going since I was 11. I might be viewed as old, but I can assure you I’m NOT quiet, in fact I’m probably too outspoken during games as m6 emotions get the better of me. I will give as good as I get. So don’t stereotype. We’re not all the same…. And just in case some of you hadn’t realised , I’ll come clean…I’m female. But I’ll bleed Blue for Town like any mid twenty something male. Again , please don’t stereotype. The single thing we’ve all got 8n common , is ITFC and promotion! So let’s get doing shall we!

Exactly this ^^^^^

That Cobbold stand ( upper tier?) would be ideal. You can be “seen”. You’ll most definitely be heard, and you will influence the rest of the ground from that corner. I could see eventually SBR upper in that corner also being “ infiltrated” …This WILL build , be in no doubt about it. But it just takes a little time.

I second that. And there is already the vociferous contingent in U2 who maybe will swell your ranks, or amplify the noise even if they don't move. And sitting in section 3 SBR Upper, it'll be much clearer to me (and probably the rest of the ground) what you are singing.
