I really like what I saw of Hirst 10:46 - Jan 15 with 5061 views | unstableblue | I think strikers who have an aerial presence, physicality AND are good with their feet, can pass, are valuable in this league. Perfect control and supply to Morsy who fluffed his shot. He also did what Ladapo doesn’t and that is get in front of his marker. Could be a great signing. But he’s clearly not match fit he was clearly blowing by the end.

Not at all. I saw the same hirst on the ball as others saw. That's what footage does, it shows you the player on the ball funnily enough. I saw his excellent touch and pass to Morsy. Didn't have to be there to see it.

I'm not getting involved between you 2, but something I have always missed about TV coverage, is the ability to see what players are doing off the ball, which is a critically important part of the game.

Exactly what I noticed at the Rotherham game - totally different watch

Had this conversation the other day, from where we sit (NSU) you really do get a totally different appreciation for formation, player movement etc that you don't get on iFollow. I've not missed a league game this season yet via season ticket or iFollow and being there really does change your view, it's not opinion, it's fact. Hirst was good when he came on, not sure what to expect from someone who's not played much and not played with those players either, but I saw enough to know he'll be a handful and a different type of handful to Ladapo who I also feel does a job, but does seem to lack that clinical ball to feet type ability, great with it in front of him though.

Whilst true. That wasn't what the OP was about nor was my reply. All the aspects of the OP are what could be seen on the live coverage let alone at the ground. If we were talking only about off the ball stuff then that's a different discussion and one best left to those who were at the game.

Hmmmm. Your post on the thread indicated you saw no more from him than Ahadme and whilst you hoped he comes good "I can't see how anyone can say they saw much from sat". It was that which I was responding to, those who were at the game could see things which you probably couldn't watching via a stream. Glad you agree.

No offence Frimley, but much of my original post and positive opinion of Hirst from his sub appearance Saturday was formed from Hirst movement, position and running that you would not have been able to see on iFollow. Not a criticism, more some positivity, he was giving their defence a torrid time and was much more active out of position than I expected. He also moved into good positions when we came forward with the ball and at set pieces. Again very early days and he is clearly not match fit.

And had you said as such then that's a different discussion. What you spoke of in your OP was on the elements of his game that was entirely viewable away from PR. Control. Passing. Aerial presence, good with his feet etc. You didn't say off the ball running. Positioning off the ball or his movement off the ball. My reply was solely based on the OP.

As per my previous reply. All the aspects spoken of in the OP was viewable and my usage of Ahadme was based on those viewable attributes.

I really like what I saw of Hirst on 08:15 - Jan 16 by Herbivore | The issue Hirst faced was that he had Sam Morsy playing off him rather than a genuine forward. The chance Morsy scuffed aside, that limited our ability to play the game in Plymouth's half and really threaten a second goal. I thought Hirst looked decent, he's a big lad but his movement looked good to me. Think he could be an important player over the next 20 games. |
Yeah, there was much more than it just being a Hirst issue. We've got a mobile team that presses from the front when we've got the likes of Ladapo, Harness and Chaplin all playing. The dynamic completely changes when they aren't involved. Hirst looks to have a decent touch as well - I'd like to see us play our normal game with him involved. It was the lumping it up to him as a lone target man that i wasn't keen on.
