It’s now or never for us this season…. 18:26 - Jan 21 with 4580 viewsitfcjoe

Next 7 games are 5 of the bottom 6. So a real opportunity to turn this round substantially.

We need this soft run to pay benefits

You’ll then get people moaning we only beat the lower teams

Not sure I would moan about it
Would be nice to see a win but we seem to be struggling to do that not sure why we have the game make the chances but concede odd goals

I think the next 3 league games are vital. Plymouth don't play midweek so we will be even games wise and then they take on Sheff Wed, so guaranteed dropped points for one or both. Morecambe and Cambridge have to be wins for us. Then we will have a huge game against Sheff Wed at PR.

We need to shift the momentum now. If we can win the next 3, we could be 5pts off Plymouth and 2pts off Sheff Wed, assuming they were to draw their game.

The longer term concern is that we still have to go to Derby, Bolton, Peterborough and Barnsley. We are going to need some big, ballsy performances in there.

Big, ballsy performances... therein lies the problem. We had a game yesterday crying out for us to roll our sleeves up and just find a way to win. We failed miserably.

My gut feeling is there's still not enough of a winning mentality through the core of the squad. Evans has coasted in and out of games since his return. Defensively we don't attack the ball nearly we'll enough.

Maybe it will take one more summer for McKenna to replace the last of Cook's signings that don't fit the mould. Dare I say it, will Morsy be here next season? I could envisage a whole new central midfield.

I know that's weird talking about next season's recruitment with it all to play for still, but just something I'd pondered last night.

I don't think the winning mentality point is true. We have plenty of experience, quality and past promotions within our squad.

Things change in football very quickly. Momentum/confidence play such a big part in mentality going into games and ultimately the results. At the start of the season we felt pretty invincible but suddenly we are looking more fallible. I think psychologically that Charlton game looks a real turning point. We now need to turn the tide quickly.

There is plenty of time to go and plenty of games left. I'm sure one/both of Plymouth/Wednesday will have a setback and we need to be there to pounce. How would the momentum change for Wednesday if they were to get beat by Plymouth and then us consecutively? We need to concentrate on us and just get back to winning games like we were at the start of the season.

6 points from the next 2 to take in to the Sheff Weds game is a must… anything less then the automatics have gone

But confidence is a huge thing and ours is knocked at the moment

Players are not turning up for games, not 1 or 2, it’s 3 or 4

First half against Plymouth the players looked nervous. Better in second half. Yesterday from the radio we sounded flat.

Strange given the level of competition.

We’ve a good team and manager… we just need the confidence and habits that a run of wins form

'Strange given the level of competition.'

I said in a post after the game that the competition for places may be making some players nervous and affecting their confidence. It can be a strange double edged sword mentally.

I just don't see that ruthless streak in us. When teams are on the ropes we don't put them to the sword. Too many narrow wins, which doesn't help build momentum and fear from opponents. I do think mentality is playing a big part sadly.
