If Wednesday lose to Plymouth and us, the gap is back to just 1 point.

Indeed. With the caveat that we match them point for point over the next two league games.

At least one of them will drop points in that game. We absolutely must beat Wednesday.

We need to get our house in order, we can't really worry too much about what others are doing at the moment, we need to get back to winning ways and put a run together of back to back wins fast. Unless we do that we won't be going anywhere. We're certainly capable and we've got all the tools to do it, but the 1 ppg we've averaged over the last 6 isn't good enough. I still stand by the fact it's going to take 90+ points to get into the top 2, we're looking at 13 / 14 wins from our final 19 games, it's possible but we really could do with the sort of run that yields 4 or 5 on the bounce to put us in a good spot.

Exactly. Town have fallen away from the top 2 because we have picked up only 16 points from the last 12 games. That is mid table form & this is more than a blip. The performance against Oxford was poor & we looked no better than another mid table team. McKenna needs to make the new signings work soon or it's going to be the dreaded play offs.
oh, and why have we signed a striker who seems to be a permanent sick note and we have to "manage"?

Our strategy when it comes to transfers has been to spend the money on players with a high ceiling with a view to their value increasing. I'm not against it, it makes sense commercially, and given where the investment is coming from they're well within their rights to take such an approach. It's almost a VC model, player trading can give them a return, promotion to a higher standing can also do that, and ideally they will want both. If you took a shorter term lens there's probably an argument that we would benefit more from buying more senior players with a more demonstrable history who could 'hit the ground running', albeit with a likely lower ceiling. If your only objective is promotion you might argue spending money on the likes of Branagan at Oxford, even Iorfa who is looking quality for Sheff Wed would be more impactful than the less proven Clarke, but I'm not against the longer term view we're taking. We've a headhunted CEO with a good track record of player trading and no doubt it was one of the things that attracted him to GameChanger. That's not to say we haven't invested in more seasoned pros, but hopefully we've got the balance right in terms of where we've spent our money. I think we've got a very good squad and one that is set up for the medium and longer term, but there's certainly an argument that the £3m we've invested in recent weeks could probably have been spent on players that would perhaps have a higher chance of success over the next 3-4 months. In terms of this season we don't really have the luxury of a month or 2 for these guys to get up to speed.

We need wins and we need them very quickly. I really think we'll need to be going into the last 10 games on 70+ points, ideally 72 to be truly challenging the automatic spots. 21 points from the next 9 games feels ambitious, perhaps unrealistic to think we can win 7 from 9 given recent evidence, but I think it's the sort of run we need to be delivering now.

Yes absolutely.

We should get 6 points from the next 2 games and it’s game of for the Wednesday game.

If we don’t get 6 points then we don’t deserve top 2.

It shouldn’t have come to this, but it has.

We can’t do anything about it now apart from support the team and to stop feeling sorry for ourselves.

Drawing three in a row and then losing one shouldn't be a disaster, but the way it's left the table looking it seems it. If we thought we'd go the whole season without that sort of run at some stage we were kidding ourselves.

Wednesday and Plymouth just seem relentless. But you have to assume they'll have their own run of bad luck/form, starting in Feb hopefully.

Why should it not have? Town are a strong team, but not overwhelmingly so. We can't expect never to slip up, to be unable to score, to be frustrated by events.

Plymouth and Wednesday have had to battle to get where they are. Town will likewise have to fight to get back to where we were when those two weren't doing so well

Good Lord! Whatever is it?
