England Test team just ridiculous 07:43 - Feb 18 with 1229 viewsgainsboroughblue

NZ 28-5.

Wagner plundered for over 100 off 13 overs earlier. Deliberately scoring at a crazy rate in order to bat at NZ under lights. Dare we say that this whole new approach is revolutionary?

It is, not the aggression not England's batting though it is far a far more attacking approach than we have ever seen but also the whole approach, really attacking declarations designed to put the opposition in when conditions at their most difficult, it'd the pressure that supplies. Brendon Mcullum has changed the face of test cricket, no doubt. Bring on the Ashes.

It is, should be enough to wrap this up comfortably overnight.

I’m also enjoying India preparing a spin-friendly pitch and having Nathan Lyon run through them on it.

If you look at what England have done over the last year, it's really quite incredible. Records have toppled, very good sides have been smacked all over the park. We'll lose occasionally but I think we'll be tough to beat in a series until other sides start matching the level of aggression we're showing, otherwise the way we play allows us to dictate the game far too much. Some of our wins in Pakistan over the winter defied all cricket logic.

The question has often been asked "What happens when this system doesn't work?", but so far it has, 90% of the time. Which is not a bad return, by anybody's standards.

We will either beat them 5-0 or lose to them 0-5. My money is on the former.

In the spirit of reconciliation and happiness at the end of the Banter Era (RIP) and as a result of promotion I have cleared out my ignore list. Look forwards to reading your posts!

I think it’s having that freedom to play. The players are showing no caution or fear and are all the better for it.

I’m sure there are those that yearn for the endless Boycott forward defensive, but I don’t. England have put life into test cricket. It’ll be interesting to see how the Australians deal with it.

who were the very good sides this approach has beaten ?

England beat New Zealand, India in a one off test they werent interested in using it just as a warm up match for the test championship, South Africa. and Pakistan.

only the Pakistan games are notable imo because its difficult to play in Pakistan, but the rest went as per the expectation given the quality of those teams currently.

even rubbish England teams used to give themselves a good account playing in New Zealand even when they had a good team, though most of their best players shoot off to the IPL or T20 warm up leagues about now.

and notably India and Australia are the two highest ranked teams above England, and weve really yet to see how Bazball really works against them across multiple test matches.

beat Australia playing like this, then weve changed the game, but we arent there yet.

There is a deliberate tendency towards aggressive cricket too which is in stark contrast to the traditional test cricket policy of defending the draw and playing for the long game. It is like total football replacing the George Graham approach.

The idea that the scoring rate has been upped even higher in order to take advantage of trickier batting conditions under the lights is interesting too.

The OP should say "bowl" at rather than "bat" at too, I believe.

The World Test Championship final was the year before so India were not preparing for that.

South Africa have a very decent attack and indeed went one up in the series comfortably.

New Zealand were off the back of being World test champions, then like you say we did Pakistan in their own back yard which the lauded Aussies did, but only with a struggle.

Australia will be the biggest test yet definitely but don't think it's overly fair to say we haven't been tested.

It should've said 'bowl', you are right. I think I may have been a bit tired!
