Why are people so against removing people who come into the country by illegal means. I don't get it.

Maybe it is also the empty rhetoric behind the soundbite?

How long ago did the Conservatives start saying they would stop this? How many years of power have they had and done nothing? Of course they can blame the EU, France, lefty liberals, international law, the UNHCR, the ECHR and whoever else they like. But the truth is it is empty rhetoric and always has been. They know it plays well to their supporter base and will roll it out again and again and again as a known vote winner because their supporters can't see through it.

If the Government really wanted to remove illegal immigrants, they would process asylum claims and deal with them. But they don't. Why not?

Do you have any links on this. I actually had a look because it’s a place I’m interested in visiting ( trying to cover as many countries in Europe as I can).

The EU’s report into accession progress seemed to be generally positive on social freedoms and rule of law/corruption etc.

You have asked a question, so I will explain.

Imagine you are fleeing a war zone. You take your car if you have one, or catch a lift or a train or a ferry or whatever to get out. Maybe you didn't have time to get back to your house and find all your documentation, maybe your house was hit by a bomb and finding them would be impossible.

Maybe you are a persecuted minority and your passport and paperwork has been taken from you by the local Police.

Maybe you never had need to travel abroad before, or were too poor to do so, and so you don't have a passport

Anyway, you get out of your country in the clothes you are standing up in.

The camps in the next country near the border are completely overwhelmed. There isn't enough water for everyone.

Maybe you don't speak German or French, but do speak some English. And so you decide to seek Asylum in the UK, and try to find a means of getting there.

If you don't have a passport and a credit/debit card, you can't book a flight. Impossible to do. Or even a ferry, or Eurostar, should you make it to Calais.

So the acceptable means of making the crossing, ferry, Eurostar, plane, are not available to you.

How about asking somebody if they will give you a lift over, so that you can claim asylum? Even of somebody would be likely to agree, they would now be breaking the law.

So, dinghy it is.

Which used to be unauthorised, but not illegal. The Tories have specifically passed a law to make it illegal.

And are now going to try again to pass a Law which grants immediate deportation powers to Border Force for anyone who comes into the country illegally.

I get that you are very concerned about people not acting illegally. And you want to speak up against it.

The new Law that Sunak is proposing breaks international law, and would put the UK in violation of treaties which we have signed. So it is illegal.

As you are very concerned about speaking out against things that are illegal, I look forward to you condemning Sunak's illegal new Law.

Note: There has always been a way of dealing with Calais, called the Dublin Accords, which provide a means for countries to deport claimants to previous safe countries, through cooperation and sharing of some of the load. The Brexity Tories have refused to go that route, which many EU countries have signed up to, and instead have pretended that this was prevented when we were members of the EU, and so made Brexit necessary. Complete lies. Some members of the EU are signed up to the Dublin Accords.

They lied to you.

I absolutely get it that the right to seek asylum is a legal right but I also understand that entering a country illegally is wrong. Why not apply for asylum from your country of origin. Surely if you enter a country illegally your chances of being granted asylum are diminished.

You absolutely do not - by your own words, despite being told repeatedly.

Why use the word 'illegal' when it does not apply ?

Where does your 'understanding' come from ?

A government source, internationals law ?

No, the right wing media.

I would concern yourself more about why you feel the need to repeat lies. A disturbing character trait in any decent person.

You make it sound like planning a holiday.

Playing devil's advocate, how does the person in your scenario secure their place on the dinghy? I doubt anyone' standing on a beach in northern France offering free passage in a dodgy RIB with an outboard that may or may not get you to the other side.

I imagine that there will be some kind of quid pro quo - working for someone in the UK's 'parallel' economy until the cost of your passage is paid off, which won't be for a very long time.

Is that how it generally works?

As did Cruella in the video I posted earlier in the thread.
Unfortunately those who feed on tabloid red meat aren't interested in the detail.

It's 106 miles to Portman Road, we've got a full tank of gas, half a round of Port Salut, it's dark... and we're wearing blue tinted sunglasses.

I don't it is detail, either.

It is if you are a racist/xenophobe you will ignore the reality, just as with brexit.

The same thickos.
