This post was inspired by Wakh's thread on Cashin.

According to Whoscored, these are the top performing players in their position in League One. Would you consider any of them better than what we have? Would you bring them into the team or squad?



Looking at the list, I'm not sure on any. I've been impressed by Cashin before, but we made him look poor yesterday. He actually has the highest rating in the league at the moment. But on that performance I think we would be aiming higher to significantly improve our defence.

Even when we've been the better team against Sheff Wed, Bannan has looked class. But, he's 33 now, I wouldn't want him given the likelihood of decline. No doubting his ability though.

Clarke-Harris... I'm not sure. His goals per minute aren't a step up on what we have. But seems to be great inside the box... Peeling off defenders. I could imagine him getting a lot of goals in our team from cutbacks or crosses. That said, I don't know how his all-round play would fit into our team. Would he be a 10 or would he be competing with Hirst or Ladapo? This more my lack of insight into the details of opposition players.

McGoldrick would be an incredible luxury on the bench but I would swap any of our equivalents for any of them.

Maybe Clarke-Harris as a permanent signing, but I think I'd prefer Hirst if Leicester are willing to sell him or loan him for another season.

Bannan would have been useful pre-Luongo.

I'd take Mendez-Laing as a squad player from Derby after yesterday but think even his ceiling would be as a championship back up.

If you were building a team from scratch, and choosing a way of playing from scratch, you might want the likes of Bannan and McGoldrick in there, but you wouldn't put either of them into our team because they wouldn't be capable of the physical output we'd need from them.

Having said that, I'd obviously just pick our players and our way of playing anyway. When I've got a well-maintained, fully functional Dawes racing bike, I don't want to fit any bits off a Raleigh Grifter, no matter how flashy they are.

I didn't mean a team for the future, I just meant if you were putting a theoretical ready-made team together without considering what we've already got, you might include one or both, but certainly not in a team that plays the way we play.

Yeah, that is how I'd view those two too. Both quality players, but less value into the future.
