Ground capacity upgrade? 20:05 - Apr 26 with 1942 viewsGr33ngr455

Does anyone know if Ipswich are planning on upgrading the capacity of the ground or not, seeing that the games are selling out I am sure there are fans who can’t get tickets.

That was covered a bit at the fans forum. They've talked about the cobbold stand getting replaced. But you get the feeling it may depend on being in the PL. Or at least a few more seasons away.

I can't see any other way of getting more fans in otherwise

Aiye, in the Championship we struggled to get over 20k quite often. We do have a lot of fair weather fans at town so we'd need to do routinely well to be selling out.

On that token, I couldn't see there being drastic increases to the capacity even if we do go up.

Can I politely remind you that we, as a club, have history here.

On two occasions we have invested heavily in the ground capacity/ stands and it has come back and bitten us in the rear end.

I would suggest that we leave this alone for a little while.

Exactly, can you imagine for example a midweek December home game with someone like Preston if for example we are around 10th in the league. With 21000 season ticket holders and probably 500 preston fans we are unlikely to top 24k

But isn't that part of the reason it all went wrong last time we were promoted to the Prem?

Generally the ground capacity is about right, if we don't start next season well then maybe 24K - 26K becomes the norm. Bigger grounds that are only two thirds full spoil the atmosphere.
