Some strikers, no matter how good they are at finishing, just aren’t very good when one in one with the keeper. Norwood was the same. Too much time to think I suppose. Much better in positions when their instincts kick in.

Ooh please sir, can I wheel out my hunter gatherer theory again? Copied from a thread a few months back: I can't recall where I first heard it - but I've certainly used it in coaching when working with kids in the past - but this is psychological. As a species, we're designed for hunting so our natural instinct when shooting at a target is to aim at the moving 'animal'. In football, that's the keeper. Strikers need 'reprogramming' to aim elsewhere but within the goal (obviously). If this is true, I guess the 'ice cold' strikers have got everything in sync to make it happen. The ones off form, lacking in confidence etc. are probably trying far to hard to get everything correct and simply end up putting the ball straight down the keeper's throat. I have no evidence for this but it makes for an interesting training session and certainly gets the striker to focus on the target, not the default.

To correct you. Sam Smith is a 31 year old hit singer who played hits like losing game and the writing on the wall. Whereas, Michael Smith is a 31 year old sh1t winger, whose mishits saw him losing games meaning the writing was on the wall. There I've told you now. [Post edited 13 May 2023 13:39]
