By way of comparison as they’re a year further on from escaping L1, I had a look at the Sunderland forum. Of three pages of comments, two people thought it was an alright signing, the rest meh.

Given the numbers on here that think it’s ok or better, maybe their expectations are a little higher?

GOod signing for them, serves a purpose of being a reliable option whilst they try and bring through Adam Idah more and a good dressing room guy who is still very fit and a good player

Not an exciting signing, but sometimes you need to make signings like this to rebalance a squad

A handful of a player, but not a goal scoring replacement for Pukki.

As I mentioned previously he only managed 6 league goals in one of the most attacking and creative sides in Championship history.

It's a really good signing, let's be fair. And I don't think for one minute that they're going to build a team around him or whatever: he's just an excellent, experienced, tough option who knows his way around the level.

They had the Pukki wages and I think Barnes is a big and good signing (n/t) on 09:35 - May 18 with 708 viewsunstableblue

Barnes will soon be 34 & most attacking players lose their edge once they are over 30 & often become more injury prone. I'm surprised how many games Barnes played for Burnley this season so he clearly retains ability. but he last scored double digit goals 4 seasons ago. A short term signing at best, who will probably be on quite high wages.
