WHO HAVE WE SIGNED????????????? (n/t) on 11:09 - Jun 14 by TalkingBlues

He was absolutely exceptional for us, we simply wouldn’t have had the run of wins without him, but I just don’t see him having anywhere near that sort of impact in the Championship and even the gaffer wants new CM’s, so he clearly has a vision of something different to Massimo in there. I can’t comment on the other midfielders, be interesting to see which of them return injury free and what McK decides to do with them, there’s a lot of them.

I don’t think Mass received the recompense deserved via the short term contract he had with us and knowing what I’ve seen of our manager and Ashton etc, I think they will have wanted to reward him and I believe that’s pretty much reflected by the one year offer, I am certain that Mass is not seen as a first XI starter, possibly not even in a match day squad if the other midfielders (and any new CM’s) are fit and available, but I’m glad he’s been offered a wage, it’s the right thing to do by the club, but not from a playing perspective, it’s deeper IMO.

I think the second paragraph makes little sense, if they wanted to reward him they could have found easier ways to do so.

Luongo, is currently the 2nd best midfielder in the club, and it is a large drop off to the 3rd best. Getting others out the door is important now.

When the season starts, or the window ends, he may be the 4th best midfielder at the club but will still get minutes throughout the season and is a much better option than Ball, Evans, Camara and Humphreys, before even considering El Miz and Harper

Surely there would have been a promotion bonus written into his contract to reward him

Who’s in a hole? You’re all looking very desperate to find something, but you know I’m right, the one year is a thank you gesture, nothing more.

Out of interest, if one were in a hole, surely they’re digging it for a reason and to stop digging would be the opposite of what they should do, you never see the hole picture.

A slick business owned by a pension fund doesn't dish out "thank you" contracts.

I don’t think the gaffer views Mass in the same way you do, in terms of pecking order, more as a squad option in times of need IMO, but I could be wrong. I’m sure we’ll find out fairly soon what the bigger plan looks like for the season ahead anyway and then we won’t need to speculate. Would love to see Camara fit and running about, I’ve no idea what he is capable of, but must have been signed for a reason.

Is there something wrong with you?

What on earth is a thank you for last season contract?

Are you trying to be an idiot or a little edgy for mass down votes?

Its a budgie troll who is probably on borrowed time.

I'm one of the people who was blamed for getting Paul Cook sacked. PM for the full post.

Hence the reason he's been given a one year "thank you for last season" contract, we all know what's happening and he deserves it for his sterling efforts when we needed him most, but he'll not feature for us this season.

Yeah, because clubs are always dishing out 500k-1m a year in Championship wages, just to say thank you for your 4 months service..
Getting Luongo on free transfer, is an absolute steal. For a player that fitted in seamlessly, never put a foot wrong, and has yet to lose a game in a Town shirt. Tells you all you need to know..

Absolute nonsense. Luongo was a game changer for us last season.

Our aim is the Prem. As we have heard, there is money there to achieve that but everything needs to be justified. We are simply not going to offer contracts to anyone as a thank you. Like many others you have decided your opinion first and the twisted events to suit that opinion rather than actually giving it some thought and realise you're talking complete rubbish.

Truly impaired.

Ashton will be absolutely kicking himself when he realises that he could have given Luongo £500k as a thank you to walk away and not used up a squad place, yet he naively gave him £10k a week for another year and to take up a squad place on a player who is going to sit behind Ball, Evans and Camara.

Even worse when he hears you can just let his contract expire, thank him for his efforts and give him an optional £50 John Lewis voucher.

What an amateur!

"I could be wrong" is ironically the only right thing you've ever posted on here.

Trust the process. Trust Phil.
