The honesty thread 11:17 - Jul 25 with 9996 views | greyhound | We had an unreal season last year, but I can't hide from the fact that I have some niggling worries about this season. So in the spirit of honesty here's a thread of 3 things your worried about going into the new season. Add yours and kindly discuss... (hopefully adding this now still gives us time for things to resolve before Sunderland) 1. Strength of the league: looking left to right there seems to be no easy game. A solid friendly win against league opposition should be taken little more than on face value, there are very few games that will be bankers for points. 2. Defensive strength: we need more bodies in this area. Centre backs are a priority surely 3. Seems that pre season has brought about a few niggly injuries and it's quickly apparent that a bit more depth will be needed for a tough season back in championship.
The honesty thread on 07:27 - Jul 27 with 934 views | textbackup | 1 - biggest worry is our fickle fans. 2 - the pace of the championship, we might be fine, but teams midfields pace worries me 3 - we ‘might’ get caught out playing it from the back as we do, with teams that more switched on, more quality

The honesty thread on 08:06 - Jul 27 with 887 views | wkj | I have a feeling this season is one of consolidation where the pressure for promotion will not be with McKenna. As long as we stay up the expectations will likely be met. I wouldn't be shocked if this year will be one of deep analysis and fact finding with an aim to make an aggressive surge for promotion next season.

No-one's snapped their ACL though I think worrying about losing something you've wanted for ages is completely natural. I'm crapping myself.

I actually think there will be a lot of pressure on McKenna to deliver progress. No idea what that looks like but to have a guess I’ll say if top six is beyond us, that by season’s end it’s in sight for next year. I can’t see the owners accepting treading water and I can’t see McKenna tolerating it either. The Evans days of mediocrity the only objective have long gone. KM is hot property at the moment with a good reputation and ambition. I’d love to know what his and ITFCs expectations truly are and how they plan to achieve them. Surely must have looked at this sort of stuff for McKenna to have signed his new contract or is that wishful thinking?

Don't get me wrong, winning football games is very much in McKenna's mind no matter who we play. I just don't think we will be sacking him if we're at the top end of the lower half by Christmas, as many clubs would.

All GC20 are looking for is progress. 22 - 11th League 1 23 - 2nd League 1 24 - Not ending up in League 1 means we're better than 23 There's going to be a lot of learning going on this season, survival is first objective, don't go back to L1. Anything mid-table should be considered a successful first campaign, just hope it can be done playing good entertaining football.

God forbid, I hope we wouldn’t do anything as daft as that even if one or two nitwits on here start calling for a change. Big picture and all that. Striving for progress while accepting a need for patience at times will reap its rewards. It’s easy to forget that McKenna has had just a season and a half as a manager. Managing in the Championship will be a new experience and learning curve for him. He will make mistakes and learn, just as he did in L1. I really think we are on to something and get the impression that the owners and all at the club believe it too. There’s a relentlessness about ITFC which I’ve not seen in a long time if ever, unless that’s just blind optimism on my part. Apols for the bullsh1t bingo cliches.
The honesty thread on 09:11 - Jul 27 with 817 views | GlasgowBlue | My one concern is the defence. No issue with our full backs but our weakness is in central defence. Woolfy looks assured. Absolutely no issues with him. Burgess has progressed massively since McKenna came to the club but he still has the odd moment where he loses concentration. Fridge looks shot imo. I don't think we will ever see the same player that impressed so much in his first half season. Has never looked comfortable on the left and his ankle injury means he struggles to stay fit. At best I see him as back up to Woolfy, which means we have no cover for Burgess. Ball is versatile but I'd rather have a natural defender come into the squad. If we don't bring anyone in it may cost us a chance of the play offs.
