His form dipped the moment John McGreal, followed by McKenna, brought back Woolfy and moved Edmundson over to the left. He never looked comfortable there. Hence McKenna brought in a more defensive left back in Dominic Thompson for extra cover as Edmundson tended to drift more to the centre.

Edmundson was also playing on the left when Cook went through that spell of insisting on playing Nsiala ahead of Woolfenden, because Nsiala really, really couldn't play on the left. He's played most of his football here on the left, he'd played that side before coming here as well I remember reading when he signed. The side he plays on has not been the main issue with his defending, imo.

That's fair. Perhaps it was the move from a back 4 to three at the back which saw his form drop. Definitely looked limited on the left compared to JD on the right, and we needed that extra insurance from Dom Thompson.

Luke McNally would be a good signing. It'd be interesting to see how that impacts on the existing CB's at the club. You'd think either Burgess or Edmondson would then move on, with Baggot potentially kept, as 3rd or 4th choice back up.

We’ll need 4 senior centre backs. Unless one of them isn’t happy I don’t see Wolf, Fridge or Burgess leaving. The three of them plus McNally or Trusty would be a capable set of centre halves for this season.

Baggott is going out on loan anyway isn’t he?
