Winning ugly and riding our luck on 17:43 - Aug 19 by DanTheMan | If you were to smack a shot from 60 yards and it hits both posts, it's not a great chance in my mind, just a very good strike. Same with the lob, very good strike, not a brilliant chance. That's the difference for me. I guess we're just judging it by two different metrics The one from a yard out, that was a good chance. |
You keep bringing up the lob, which I didn't mention. I agree with you, that was a difficult chance, which is why i didn't mention it. The shot off both posts wasn't from 60 yards out, so bit of a weird comparison. It was just outside the box and as soon as he hit it I thought it was in.

I know you didn't mention it, I brought up the lob as a comparison. Very close to going in (like the double post) but it didn't. And I know that he didn't hit it from 60 yards out but you said: I don't think it really matters how it came about, a shot that hits the inside of one post, goes across the line and comes out off the other post... that's an extraordinary chance. And I think it very much does matter how it came about. Going one on one with the keeper and hitting both posts versus say a strike from outside the area are very different chances in my mind. That's the point I'm trying to make. I think Luongo had a better chance of scoring which Begovic saved than Armstrong getting a very good shot away from where he was. [Post edited 19 Aug 2023 17:52]

When I said "I don't think it really matters how it came about" I was referring to that shot specifically, not all shots. I'd forgotten about Luongo's chance, that was certainly a very good one and another I thought was in. You may be right, we may have different definitions of what "best chances" are. You're going more on positions, I'm going more on what actually happened. To be fair, the people who work out XG probably agree with you, but I tend to think a lot of that is nonsense. Some of the decisions on what is and isn't a "big chance", or whatever it's called, baffle me. At the end of the day I'm delighted with the win but we certainly rode our luck to get it.

Winning ugly and riding our luck on 17:45 - Aug 19 by acj | I thought so too at first, but the more I watch the replay the more I think I would have given the pen. Would like to see it from another angle to see if he did get his toe on it, which seemed to be what the ref was indicating. |
I was watching with Qpr commentary and they were both happy the ref made the right decision

Brenner would be getting pelters if it was a challenge on one of our players and he said that! Haha, but good to know - perhaps the ref got that one right after all.

Winning ugly and riding our luck on 17:42 - Aug 19 by The_Flashing_Smile | I thought Burgess got a toe on the ball, certainly looking at where it travelled to. No way was that a stonewaller. |
Definitely got the ball.

Even if he didnt get the ball, the player challenging certainly didnt and just ran over it and onto burgess. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Winning ugly and riding our luck on 18:39 - Aug 19 with 416 views | Joey_Joe_Joe_Junior | Another game I’m pleased to get out of the way early, might be a fun day out but a pretty rubbish ground to try and play at. As I said at halftime, Ainsworh had a fairly good game plan to keep our 10s quiet when we were in possession. We honestly weren’t great at times today and really should have conceded at least one, to win was fantastic. We’ll have easier away games than being the first home opponents at the SOL and Loftus Road. Bring on Leeds. Off to enjoy beers and a perfect summers afternoon at the lake!
