Why was there only 5 mins of extra time? 20:02 - Aug 26 with 1371 views | Mullet | Given Sunderland and the subs, injuries etc. today 5 mins simply doesn't make sense. I know it probably doesn't change the result and nor should it, but as with bookings so far the new rules seem to have made it more confusing not less don't they? Given, I mean as we played 7 from memory including the goal [Post edited 26 Aug 2023 20:11]

Why was there only 5 mins of extra time? on 20:14 - Aug 26 with 1296 views | backwaywhen | Makes you wonder wether all those early games with way too much time added on , has put a different perspective on decisions on how much , might be under instructions to rein it in a bit ?

Why was there only 5 mins of extra time? on 20:14 - Aug 26 with 1294 views | Herbivore | Yeah, it was ridiculous. Given we scored at 6 mins in, if they'd given the 'proper' amount of stoppage time we'd have had another 3-4 minutes to push for an equalizer.

Why was there only 5 mins of extra time? on 20:16 - Aug 26 with 1268 views | ITFC_Forever | Because Leeds brought their own ref in the shape of Luke Ayling and that’s what he decided.

I thought it was 30 seconds per sub. Or is that a myth

Ayling and Ampadu were awful for it today.

That was the general rule of thumb back when it was mystery time. The current rule I believe is they are meant to just add however long it actually takes, so if like the Leeds player who ambles across the whole pitch instead of going of the shortest distance, the ref just adds that time on, vs our subs who went to the shortest pitch side. Whether the ref was talking to the players about i don't know, but he would have been in his rights to book both Leeds subs who chose the longer routes, and the first claimed he was injured, and delayed restarting the game.

Yep. Sh*thousery of the highest order. In fairness to Ampadu he was clattered around the side of the head by Morsy, but he was a bit of a wimp generally. I wasn’t particularly impressed by his contribution either - I thought he’d be much better.

Why was there only 5 mins of extra time? on 22:24 - Aug 26 with 850 views | Facefacts | The managers in general had a moan about the first week of accurate additional time to the refs, and the refs backed down. A couple of our players went down with cramp in the first game during additional time. Pert and McKenna had a right moan about it. It's now 'as you were', same as last season. Can't have it both ways, I'm afraid.
