You might be thinking of Scarlett. Tuanzebe is on a trial at the moment I think, central defender released by Man United.

I'd have thought we must be pretty close to something if he was there on Saturday.

Think they want to take a bit of a look at him, assess his fitness, see how he fits in etc first. Kieran said he's not fully over an injury at the moment. He was close to joining Luton last week but couldn't agree a deal.

This is what McKenna said… “Yeah we’ve spoke with Axel over the last few weeks, he’s a player of really high pedigree who I know, he’s still not fully fit from the back injury he’s had over the last few months, we just need to wait until he’s fully back up to speed and reintegrated before we have further conversations with him” Asked if he will be here on trial he said… “I don’t really like using the word trial if I’m honest when you’re talking about a top pedigree player, it’s not a trial, I’m sure he’ll have a lot of interest when he’s fit and available. He’s a player we like and we have a space in the 23 man squad at the moment, we’ll continue to have conversations with him and try and do the right thing for the club and the player”

Ahh thanks - I had missed that! Doing some reading between the lines, I'd say we want to give him a 'proper' contract (i.e longer term) when/if we are happy enough he has proven he is fit, rather than a pay as you play or something short term.

Waiting to see that he can show he's over the injury then I guess? Clearly a player KM rates and knows well from his time at United, so that's encouraging. Lack of football must be a concern though, he's only played 10+ games in a season once and that was 5 years ago. Can understand the club wanting to have a proper look at him before committing. Williams - Woolfenden - Tuanzebe - Davis is potentially a bit naughty as a back 4.

Helluva a player, “when fit”, by all accounts. But we’ve been here before havent . Camara being the most recent example. Some players just keep getting injured don’t they, so their skill sets become almost irrelevant.

He's a player at a far higher level than Camara though. You are getting a £10m+ centre half on a free transfer. A massive upside if you can keep him fit. I imagine he will be wanting a decent contract which is what we need to balance that risk against.

we have also been there when players that we have written off as injury prone go to other clubs and play game after game. You have to ask whether this is a punt worth taking in this case. I would think it is.

Ask Sheffield Wednesday fans what they think of Luongo, they'll tell you he's a great player but made of biscuit. They're amazed that we've managed to keep him fit for so long. Tuanzebe would be the next level of player for us if we can keep him off the treatment table, the kind of player to nullify forwards such as the 3 Leeds front men we faced. We don't have the finances available to us to compete with parachute clubs so we need to be creative. We have to either unearth hidden gems, plunder European clubs and hope that players settle and fit the club without much knowledge of the players your investing in or bring in players such as Tuanzebe that you risk not being available for much of the season. Unless we manage to cash in on someone like Davis we just can't go toe to toe against recently relegated premier league teams in the transfer market. [Post edited 4 Sep 2023 16:41]
