Best places to drink in Ipswich? on 18:03 - Sep 12 by Mullet | Is that the one and only time it's stunk of farts though? That's the question. |
Whenever I've been it's smelled like a mix of guffs, and floorboards covered in country cider and frothy ale that have never been mopped. Tbf that's what I smell like, so yeh, meh.

Best places to drink in Ipswich? on 18:01 - Sep 12 by WeWereZombies | I went in The Royal George a few times in the Seventies and Eighties (and once in the Noughties for a family get together) and it was always a decent standard of decor and service then, but as boring as an inner ring road pub can be. Think it is Colchester Road at that point. Go a little way east and turn down Sidegate Lane and you ended up at The Golden Key (another Adnams tied pub) which was much more convivial. |
It's Colchester Road on the corner of Sidegate Lane. It always seemed ok when we were at Sixth Form back in the mid-90s, although maybe it was a little too close to Northgate. It might even have been the first pub I went into in any shape or form as my Mum worked there in the 80s and my brother and I went to a kids party there for the landlord's child. It's looked sh1te for years though as part of some abysmal chain.

Best places to drink in Ipswich? on 12:03 - Sep 12 by tractorboy1978 | £1.95 pints, landlord Steve's arse crack hanging out the back of his shorts and the worst pub toilets imaginable. TWTD. [Post edited 12 Sep 2023 12:08]

As you can guess by my name I was a Heathlander. Fantastic pub growing up. My second home. My mum used to bring our dinner up there when we forgot to go home. Three football teams, Heathlands Hotel, Trojans and Heathlands United. It was a proper football pub, 30 of us used to go to the game from there. And many away trips. My heyday was in the time of Roger Love the landlord. Bikers one side of the bar, casuals in the lounge. But all got on together. Happy Days.

Best places to drink in Ipswich? on 17:52 - Sep 12 by Dyland | For some reason I'm now thinking of the sh1ttest pubs... The Royal George on Valley Road or is it Colchester Rd dunno, near Tuddenham rd was absolute dogwvank in the 80s. And I doubt it's any better. Possibly worse :) Traf must have been Spring Rd then innit. |
Trafalgar was Spring Road, just before the turning up St Johns near the bus stop. they turned it into house(s) but they actually put in a mosaic kind of where the pub sign used to be that says The Trafalgar on it, so its really easy to spot.

technically a Heineken pub nowadays since they acquired Punch, who had themselves acquired Pubmaster, who had acquired it via the Barclay Bros I guess, as it used to be a Tolly Cobbold pub back back in the day, like most of the town was. theyre allowed guest ales that Heineken get for them.

They serve 1-2 cask ales from local breweries but they serve them well, which alot of the pubs, who serve lots of cask beer at once often forget. |
Yes I'm aware of that, I guess my point was they only ever have 2 cask / CAMRA beers on at any one time, so a selection of 2 beers probably wouldn't be my first recommendation to a CAMRA drinker. I am however looking forward to sampling some new beers in the Arcade tomorrow lunchtime!
