Sometimes i have the most most left field thoughts 20:14 - Oct 20 with 4097 views | nodge_blue | Im watching the start of the rugby and im thinking 1. The haka must be cultural appropriation. Largely white guys performing a native dance when years ago that dance would have been performed against their ancestors. 2. Then i saw Argentina as basically white spanish colonialists too. Which makes me wonder why their version of colonialism makes them think of the malvinas (spanish name?) As theirs. Its like the large colony believes they should own the small colony. Of course neither should have been there. All that going on in my head as i watch the anthems. Now ill watch the rugby.

Totally giving away control of monetary policy to a foreign power is an "interesting" approach for an economist to advocate, especially one who is trumpeting nationalist rhetoric. |
It's madness for a country like Argentina to peg or use any currency other than their own, they need the flexibility that running your own currency allows. They have already defaulted twice, partly because they issued bonds in USD. SB

Sometimes i have the most most left field thoughts on 08:53 - Oct 21 by Mullet | Weirdly, when I worked in New Zealand (during a Rugby world cup) I was accosted by an Argentine woman. She heard my accent and almost ran over to start berating me about the Falklands. Was a very weird interaction given she was surprised I was no fan of Maggie either. Wanted me to know emphatically she was a "babykiller" and hated in Argentina. |
Utterly bizarre, I didn't see anything like that when I was in BA, everyone was lovely. SB

The Argentines already keep their savings in dollars, usually in cash because the official banks will not allow them to hold anything other than the peso. On top of that there are official and unofficial exchange rates for the peso plus a couple of others I never understood and a crypto rate. I even made a decent turn exchanging Bolivianos. We had Kiwi fruits forced upon us by a man determined to show us the best of New Zealand a bit north of there.

To see an elderly white man doing a full-on Haka in a thick Yorkshire accent was quite something. Ooh-ah-iki-iki-koo-ah-hai, tha knaws.
