I remember being in Standing Committee on the Finance Bill where one of the junior Treasury ministers was struggling a bit explaining a very complicated tax provision. Darling came in and took complete control.
That government was full of decent and likeable people, and I remember being taken for a drink on the terrace after that Standing Committee meeting by Geoffrey Robinson and Ian McCartney.
