Match thoughts - a superb away display, and a real marker 17:52 - Dec 9 with 3199 views | unstableblue | Games like that can define seasons, and those scenes at the end with the players in front of the away end, it builds momentum and a bond between fans and players. In some ways we didn’t get into top gear for large periods of the first half, with the Clarke and Burns interface not quite working. But we were still controlling the game with ease. Second half our captain Morsy and the continually improving Taylor just owned the game. And Clarke and Davies became much stronger. I really liked Hutchison when he came on, his press is just exactly. And loved the goal and his somersault celebration. Hirst was in beast mode again, and he is just so strong and dynamic. He is the perfect target man at the moment. Let’s be clear though that Boro looked depleted and for me didn’t give us the test you’d have expected. Having said that I thought Burgess and Wolfenden were strong - bar 2 or 3 decent Boro efforts that were a little scary. I assume their number 9 is a first 11 player as he was causing issues. But hats off to Hladky he saves us goals and gets us wins. Two excellent saves. What a season. And whilst it’s heart in mouth with some of our passing around the back, when it works it’s a joy to watch. A mention for Chaplin, great strike, deflection I think, but we and the game needed it. Broadhead is getting back to his best, still a few missed moments, but he had some driving runs today which gives our game a much needed different dimension. Burns as mentioned earlier wasn’t quite getting the joy on the right wing, and he didn’t push out that wide at times.. and the Clarke communication was not right. That second half display was just a perfect away performance. And for me we had moments in dangerous areas where we should have carved out more goals. Obviously it was tainted a little bit by Morsy’s late yellow. Which was unnecessary. Perhaps on reflection Ball should have come on for Morsy; as Ball did the deep role really well when on, with one crunching tackle. But looking on the plus side he’s back for Leeds and Leicester and firing. And Taylor is looking strong, with Luongo deeper. (*** STOP THE PRESS - Morsy not suspended for Watford / Norwich - with have to watch himself at Vicarage Road - in some ways we need him for Elland Road!) I can’t help but feel the WBA result and display was just us catching the baggies in their best display of the season. Anyway on to Watford and then the derby. The away support was excellent today, solid support throughout and good banter with the home end. Best way to sum up today was on the walk out of the stadium a Boro fan saw unstable juniors Town bobble hat and said “you’re a very good side and hope you get promoted”. That’s what we are a very good side - whether we’ll have enough to keep ahead of Leeds, well we’ll have to see. That Elland Road clash is huge now. But wherever we end up - for me this is my favourite season, manager and team since Burley’s prime. What a manager and set of players we now have. COYFB. [Post edited 9 Dec 2023 18:47]

It was great Bognor, a really active Town away end… replete with a set of lads with elf hats on We were saying as a group that Town seem to have a growing repertoire of songs Many based on Luongo!! I do quite like Carrow Road is falling down - I get why it annoys some… [Post edited 9 Dec 2023 18:48]

He might not get another yellow the next game, or the one after that. He went ten League matches without picking up a yellow at one point last season, which we won 80% of.

Me and my sons definitely liked the Massimo Massimo song today to the tune of ‘Let in snow, let it snow’

Yes that series of games where he managed himself and avoided a banning yellow was remarkable

Yes, today’s away day is up there with some of my best. Loved it at the end - will be saving that video.

I appreciate we are further from home than when that took place but it feels like these players are starting to believe they are there on merit and not just punching above their weight.

Hladky has earned my trust with his passing. He knows exactly what he's doing. I genuinely don't think he's misplaced a short pass since the first game vs Sunderland.

Sort of coincided with Mass coming in, saved Morsy having to 'look after' the others.

Yes, you have something there. Maybe more like Bolton away? Which was earlier in the cycle of last season, but started to show how strong we were as a team and our potential?? Also there is something in your player belief element - their confidence that they deserve to be vying with Leicester and Leeds must have taken a knock at the Hawthorns, yesterday they proved they are the real deal. Do think Boro were depleted though and I’m expecting a tougher test at Vicarage Road on Tuesday. Where McKenna seems to have confirmed Morsy will start.

Match thoughts - a superb away display, and a real marker on 08:39 - Dec 10 with 1399 views | SheffordBlue | On the width point and Burns/Clarke - I think that was tactical setup more than anything. Going into the game there were concerns that with Luongo out we might get dominated in the middle but keeping the players narrow nullified that. Clarke also seemed to be under instructions not to go on his marauding runs when play was in transition - he'd break into space and then slow it up to allow us to keep our shape. Boro didn't create a lot but looked most dangerous in transition and if he'd found himself too high/wide when the ball was turned over they would have been well placed to take advantage.
