Tinnitus 12:47 - Jan 9 with 5698 views | geg1992 | Hi everyone, I've had tinnitus for almost 10 years now and it hasn't caused me much distress except from the 1st year where I really struggled. I've been to football home and away, clubbing (with ear plugs), travelling etc and never had an issue. Since the last home game it has increased and is really bothering me again. It's affecting my sleep and sometimes my concentration as I can hear it 24/7. I'm really considering skipping the next home game to give my ears a rest, but as stupid as it sounds, football has really helped me through a difficult year as my wife became extremely ill and spent over 5 weeks in hospital and is still recovering (but certainly very close to her normal self, thankfully!) I wonder, for those who do suffer, do you wear ear plugs to the matches? Or take any other precautions? I'm wondering if it was actually the tannoy system. I remember it being very loud and because of the medical emergency, was on much longer than usual. Thanks for any advice! EDIT - also interested to hear from people that have had it long term to see how you've coped / how it's progressed in time. [Post edited 9 Jan 2024 12:50]

Tinnitus on 16:01 - Jan 9 by WeWereZombies | I'm another one who has suffered from tinnitus for years and learned to live with it. The Tannoy and PA systems are Portman Road are amongst the worse triggers for me, I think it is fair to say that those in charge of the sound at our beloved club are the only bad thing remaining in the set up. They appear not to have the slightest clue about what they are doing. As has been said in the deaf community 'Louder is not clearer'. Rather than put in ear plugs you can pop open the battery compartment on your hearing aids, the effect is the same. |
A bit off moaning about those responsible for sound at PR when you have an echo on your post! ;-)
Tinnitus on 14:40 - Jan 20 with 1059 views | Joey_Joe_Joe_Junior | I wasn't feeling great with a bit of a viral infection coming on when I left a conference in Vegas in 2018. When I landed it quickly dawned on me I couldn’t hear out of left ear. Assumed it was just a pressure thing and would come back, it never did. Somehow my hearing sensors got destroyed and I have fairly consistent tinnitus now. It sucks. I have to travel pretty constantly but do cancel if I’m not feeling 100% after that. Right ear is fine left ear is like 20-30%. Had MRI as panicked something worse was going on but that all came back fine. Should really go and see an ENT again soon for some advice, probably will get worse when I reach my 40s, 50s and beyond I’m sure.
Tinnitus on 16:17 - Jan 20 with 998 views | BSEWendy | I can recommend an ENT consultant Mr Neil Donnelly who is based at Addenbrookes but my father saw him privately at the Spire in Histon. My father saw him for Ménière’s disease and with his advice my father’s condition is now very well managed. I believe he also deals with tinnitus.
Tinnitus on 16:31 - Jan 20 with 981 views | ronnyd | I had an annoying whine in my ear while driving last week. It disappeared when the wife got out. Just to add that i do have mild tinnitus which i found was very much worse when i suffered from atrial fibrillation. [Post edited 20 Jan 2024 16:37]

Tinnitus on 13:06 - Jan 20 by MJallday | Yeah I get it really bad in my left ear. Someone recently posted on here that anti depressants can make it worse .not sure how true this is but certainly in my case it has What helps me is background noise eg tv or radio It’s the quiet that I notice it in |
It really needs to be said that if somebody on antidepressants notices the onset of tinnitus then they should see their GP urgently. Some antidepressants can have very severe withdrawal symptoms and so even if they cause a horrible side effect like tinnitus they shouldn't be withdrawn from without appropriate advice and support. There are different broad families of antidepressants, which work in different ways, so if one type causes tinnitus as a side effect, others may not for the same person.
