We had a pretty stacked team that season, mad we we 'rent able to get promoted with that!
Also I rated Royle as manager, but his failure to utilise Reuser while he was here probably held the team back more than we realised. He was far too good for our bench.

He fell out with Royle didn't he? To be fair though, even under Burley he was a bit part player wasn't he and mostly came on as a sub

I had the honour of doing the Hospital Radio commentary on behalf of my Bishop's diocese for that particular game. It was a very exciting contest, however it was rather unfortunate for me that Kenny Lunt was playing for Crewe that afternoon.
There veritably is only one Sticky Mockwell, don't you know.
We were actually rock bottom after about six games before going on one or two mad runs with shed loads of goals going in either end. Think we scrambled in to the play-offs on the final day v Cardiff. I was sat in the directors box that day for some reason I cannot recall.
Palace went up and had an even worse start than we did.
One of the oddest games I ever went to. Crewe nearly made it 5-5 just before our 6th went in.
I went with my Crewe Alex mate and our chum who follows Southampton - we’d go to a lot of each others’ games back in the day. I met them in the Station Hotel at about 12.30. They were already the worse for wear.
Off we went to the game, me to my seat in Churchmans, them to the away section. How they got in I’ll never know. By then I wasn’t at my best either. I’m wasn’t sure I was seeing straight with goals going in everywhere. Either way I met them outside the away section after and the three of us shouted from afar ‘Rush goalie!!’
And off we went to the Drum and Monkey (what a dive that was). Then the Black Horse…then somewhere else - I think. My dad picked me later and I went straight to bed when I got back to his place. My mum asked if it was something I ate. Errrrr no.
A top day out and one of the maddest games I ever saw. Shefki - that goal celebration. Nobody has ever topped that!
