Original songs 11:32 - Apr 17 with 1253 viewssatsuma

For starters, can I say that the atmosphere at the ground has been great lately, and I think Blue Action and the North Stand are playing their part in backing the team.

But when it comes to songs, how many are unique to Ipswich? They're often the first place I hear them, but then I later find out they're adapted from other clubs.

So.. which songs are truly our own?

The original, and the best.

I guess it must be the difficult lyrics that mean it never gets an airing!!

Is the list finished at EEJB? One song unique to Ipswich?

It's no 'They called us the Tractor boys.' is it.

Think terrace songs tend to spread meme-style, don't they? There was an interesting discussion about the "Every Saturday we follow... Allez Allez Allez" chant on the OTC podcast the other day. It is now sung everywhere and I assumed it was a Liverpool invention, but apparently it was an Italian pop song, adopted by a variety of teams in their lower leagues before being popularised by Napoli. It was then taken up by teams they played in Europe and learned by Liverpool fans during a Champions League tie with Porto.

Here's the Napoli version (love these lyrics!)

Thanks for digging that up (and I stand by it!).

I wonder what can be done though to try and generate some fresh, original songs, to give us our own identity. Same applies to the PA at games. Hey Jude is obviously great, but it would be nice to have something unique to us

I think even having one (EEJB) is better than some clubs can muster. I guess one way to get a new one is to get the tannoy to play a song regularly, so that fans associate it with Portman Road, and ( like others on here) I think there’s no need to look any further than the Addicts ‘viva la revolucion’ ( plus diacritics!) .

I remember being in Churchman’s in about 1981 and ‘Hey Mickey ‘ by Toni Basil being sung, I guess in tribute to M.Mills. But I don’t know if was unique to Town, or if it endured more than a month or two.

I was miffed to find out the Waka Waka song was being sung by Newcastle last year, thought we'd finally got another one.

I like this. There's strong potential for songs that play on our yokel perception, imho.
