Prem clubs to vote on scrapping VAR 17:49 - May 15 with 3270 viewsSheffordBlue

Wolves tabling a motion to scrap VAR means it will be debated on voted on.

Suspect it will stay but with some changes to address the main concerns voiced by Wolves in the article.

I'm not convinced the semi-automated offsides will help, they will still flag these 'half a fingernail' offsides when to all intents and purposes the striker is level.

I'm not averse to hawkeye type var on corners / goal-kicks etc, but i'd get rid for penalties.

It will definitely help. At the minute we rely on the VAR to identify the appropriate body part and then draw corresponding lines from that. This eliminates that whilst also reducing the size of the line and the wait time. Supposedly 31 seconds if this article is to be believed - https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/68791135

Re penalties I equally agree, we don't need to look at every decision but if your captain wants to challenge then that should be reviewed.

The main reason its flawed at the moment is because someone else is reviewing the footage and telling the referee they are right or wrong. Just let the referee make the decision on field and then if required they can change their decision based on what they see on the big screen. Not the still image they are shown by someone else who has made the decision for them.

It would eliminate the line drawing stuff and reduce the waiting time, I'm not disputing that, but it's still going to call offside if one player is half an inch in front of the other.

I suppose what I am saying is I would be happy with semi-automated offsides if the rule was changed to flag offside if there is daylight between attacker and defender. I'm not keen on challenges, but that's probably the traditonalist in me. I would also feel this would make 2 codes of association football - one with challenges and one without.

….obviously VAR is terrible in its current form, but my concern is around whether it’s worse than the perception/myth/fact that the “big clubs” get preferential treatment from refs.

Surely the answer is to improve the current process, particularly in terms of speed.

I dunno really, but I suspect it won’t get the 14 votes it needs.

The top clubs get the benefit with VAR as well.

Always happens that a marginal VAR call goes the way of the bigger club…. Which isn’t what VAR is supposed to be for, it’s supposed to be for clear and obvious errors.

Doubtless they’ll take an eternity to count the votes, draw lines and go to the screen before doing as they’re told by Manchester City….

When that story is published next month I think that’s when it’ll sink in.

It's going to be when the fixtures come out, I keep reading articles about the EFL, humming, sighing, then about halfway through remembering it doesn't affect us anyway.

No idea when I began here, was a very long time ago. Previously known as Spirit_of_81. Love cheese, hate the colour of it, this is why it requires some blue in it.

Has there ever been a table produced of where teams would have finished, if incorrect ref or VAR decisions were taken in to account? Made me think of it yesterday after the farke thread..
