Spot on, however....not so fast your new dear leader has spoken....

this has all the hallmarks of a classic diane abbott story - nonsense wrapped in a cloak of confusion. it's nice that she is going out with her own distinct style intact.

And so as the loose-bowelled pigeon of time swoops low over the unsuspecting tourist of destiny, and the flatulent skunk of fate wanders into the air-conditioning system of eternity, I notice it's the end of the show

your story about the press being briefed doesn't match the bbc's:

"Hours later, it was revealed that Abbott's suspension had been lifted and the whip restored.

Abbott then texted a BBC reporter this morning, saying Labour had barred her from standing for the party at the general election.

She later posted on X, saying she was "dismayed" at the reports she had been barred."

so the being barred story originated with abbott and she was then dismayed by the reports that had actually originated with her.

The "barred from standing" reports were briefed to The Times and appeared on Tuesday evening, before the whip being restored story came out.

He went on to say.

"It’s ultimately a decision for the national executive committee on all candidates. There will be a decision in due course, but they haven’t taken that decision, though."

And if you think Dianne Abbott will end up as the Labour candidate (especially given members of the NEC waiting in the wings for winnable seats), I've got a bridge in London to sell you.

But more seriously, my concerns about the way Labour are behaving, which has all the hallmarks of the disgraceful way Johnson got rid of MPs before the 2019 election, is this.

EDIT: I posted this (from the Guardian) elsewhere, just in case you missed it.

Members of the party’s ruling national executive committee (NEC), who have been instrumental in transforming its rules after Jeremy Corbyn’s leadership, are also tipped for seats. They include Luke Akehurst, Gurinder Singh Josan, Abdi Duale and the NEC chair, James Asser.

The move will trigger controversy from critics who argue that Labour candidates – particularly those in plum seats – should be selected with local input from grassroots members and not simply handed to allies of the leadership.

In February 2020, while he was campaigning for the Labour leadership, Starmer said selections for Labour candidates needed to be “more democratic and we should end NEC impositions of candidates. Local party members should select their candidates for every election.”

He added then that “there should be no power without accountability, and true accountability requires transparency”.

i really hate the idea of someone suffering this sort of penalty because of allegations rather than something that has been tested and proven. but i don't see what else he or the party can do.

I heard that Berger and Umunna are making a nice life for themselves, shilling for the oil and gas industry, greenwashing and extolling the virtues of a country freed from its EU shackles.

These are the 'serious leftists' we were supposed to take seriously.

And yet lowhouse seeks to take the piss out of a long-serving constituency MP in Abbott, because he's all about that 'realpolitik' or something.

fingers crossed that galloway is putting up someone who's politically sophisticated enough for you. or, what the hell eh, just be done with it and vote directly for tories? cut out the middle man.

Why would I turn out to elect a Tory?

No, I'll be voting Green.

I understand that politics is like football to you (even though you've never posted about our team but oh well) but I prefer my politics with a bit or meaning and not more of your favourite band.

Ironically the current leader had a real job - having gone to a normal school and worked to get to the top of his game.

Whereas Dear Leader was an ermmmm career politician, having finished his posh school with a couple of ‘F’ grades and never worked a day in the real world.

I get that Starmer is a bit vanilla, but if/when he gets elected, makes things less corrupt, restores relations with our European partners, he’ll have already achieved more than Dear Leader did in 5 years leading the party (and a lifetime on the gravy train).

Funny how banksy moans that politicians baggage is searched. He’d rather it remained locked away, which is an odd take. .

But this is a thread about potential MP's not the cult of leaders.

Edit. It's funny how it is those that wanted to write off a genuine Left agenda option that repeatedly resort to the cult of Corbun bullsh1t.

Edit2...With Starmer you get a vanilla leader and vanilla, status quo politics....yeah!!

Sadly, they will end up being the left cheek of the same arse that shares Reform as the right cheek.

Which is a shame because we need gree policies at the forefront of British politics. But for some reason in this country all the cranks and wonks tend to migrate towards the Green Party.

I like how they pretend Starmer is some sort of politically savvy wolf in sheep's clothing who'll be like the next Attlee.

He's politically and morally vacuous. A technocrat. Like Draghi only with a lot less personality. Aldo Moro pt 3. Lol.
