Next season in the Chamionship 15:05 - May 29 with 6898 views | IndependentlyBlue | Know it’s not our worry but Championship is going to be difficult to call next season. Three relegated teams with money to burn. Dirty Leeds have plenty of players to sell and parachute payments to get them past their financial difficulties. Middlesbrough, WBA and Coventry will be strong. Watford a bit of a wild card so who knows? QPR and Wendies finished well and both seem to have found a good coach if they can hold on to them. Pompey and Derby will hope to carry their momentum on from promotion. Sunderland might get it right at last Can’t think missed anyone of note Thoughts

Farke can get teams promoted from the Champ, it took him 2 seasons to get Norwich promoted that first time. Plus he won't have all the player cr@p (going on strike, wanting to leave) at the start of next season.

How well Burnley do is going to be determined by who they get in as the new manager, as by all accounts (including Pep) Kompany had them performing well above their accepted best prospects as individuals players. Rosenior could be a suitable replacement.

Seems fair and balanced to me 😃. My predictions: 1. Leeds 2. Coventry 3. West Brom 4. Luton (promoted via play offs beating West Brom 3-2) 5. QPR 6. Portsmouth 7. Middlesbrough 8. Wednesday 9. Sheffield Utd 10. Burnley 11. Derby 12. Stoke 13. Hull 14. Cardiff 15. Swansea 16. Watford 17. Sunderland 18. Preston 19. Blackburn 20. Norwich 21. Bristol City 22. Millwall 23. Plymouth 24. Oxford Sorted! Norwich’s Danish bloke won’t be bringing home the bacon. He’ll make a pigs ear of it and they’ll see the back of him by 12th Night (two hands of fingers for them). His replacement will be a less rasher choice and won’t be so ham fisted, hence the pulling away from relegation and the open top bus parade.

Sunderland will need to seriously sort themselves out to be near the top 6 I reckon. Will be interesting to see what the Hull team looks like. They spent big last summer for no return. I would have thought that they will need to balance the books

At least they won’t have to play The Trotters next season, but I doubt it’ll be a crackling season for them.

Next season in the Chamionship on 17:47 - May 29 by TheBoyBlue | Last year's relegated trio were established PL clubs with strong teams that they by and large kept together and sensibly added to with the extra money that they had to burn compared to others. I can't see the three coming down this year being anywhere near as strong. I was surprised by Middlesbrough this season as I thought they would've been right up there, but I think another year wiser Carrick will have them up there. Coventry will be strong again I expect, if Hull had kept Rosenior but I sense that their owners may mess it up for them. QPR seem a really strong team now, dare I say it Norwich will have to sell but will probably still be chasing and my dark horses are Sheffield Wednesday. Watford perhaps too and it'll be interesting to see Bristol City with Manning in from the start. All with the caveat that I don't know what I'm talking about and had us finishing midtable this season, so who knows?! |
We definitely had the big advantage over Coventry and Middlesborough last season in that we has continuity and none of our best players were poached from us. It probably would have happened to us too this summer if we didn't get promoted. It's the harsh reality of the Premier League clubs hoovering up all the talent. Both Coventry and Middlesborough were both much better in the second half of the season, but especially Coventry run out of steam.

The only way they will do well next season is if their new manager is exceptional. Three of four of their players really excelled and will get moves away because Norwich aren't in a position to say no if big money offers come in. You'd expect them to finish mid-table. A great manager will put them in contention for the playoffs, but a poor manager will put them in contention for relegation.

I keep thinking this but they just have an annpying knack of finding talent from random places and for not a lot of money. Sara, Sainz, Pukki, Bunedia etc. And they will sell Rowe/Sara/Sargent for a bit of cash. And the new manager they seem to be getting is someone that i quite admire as a coach (not anymore mind) I hope they finally have the years that we had, but i expect them to be competitive again. Unfortunately.

I think Nodge will be losing some of their talent in this window and will finish in a similar position as they just did. This season it was an underachievement with the players they had. They'll do similar again. Maybe miss out on POs this time by a point or two. They won't get another sniff for years.

I am not sure I define underachievement the same as you. They rely heavily on 2 or 3 players. While any 1 of them was missing they were well off the play offs. They got them fit for the second half of the season and Sargeant had the goal-scoring form of his career and propelled them to 6th. If they lose 2 or all 3 of those players, they will have to replace them with the same quality to be good enough for the play offs. They then have to hope they don't get injured or lose form for any length of time. They are stuck with some ageing players on big contracts too and they are unlikely to stay fit or be as good as last season. Perhaps Gibbs and Rowe and co will step up but it would be a lot to ask them to do so. They put that pressure on the Scottish lad they took on loan a season or two ago and destroyed him. The fact that we are above them tends to make them more determined, you only have to look at the historical data to see the correlation. Until we got to the old first division in 1961 they had been a totally underperforming well supported club never threatening the elite. They even had to apply for reelection in late 50’s, of course with their attendances and the fact that in those days the away side had a third of the net gate receipts meant that they were in no danger of getting kicked out like Gateshead et al. They should have won the play offs last year but the crowd made playing at home, after sacking managers, so difficult that they missed out. We can hope that a bad start will reignite the idiots unrest and scupper them once again. If that happens then their future will depend on their youth set up. Three or four of their youngsters have had successful loans this season so there is a chance of them remaining in contention, hopefully I am over optimistic for them.
