The Spitting Image parody might make more sense if you have endured the original.....

It was all-pervading, up there with the excreable Birdie Song.

The parody version stood as a beacon of hope and merriment in a very bleak landscape

I think you had to be there to appreciate it. It was such a politically dire scene, people needed a completely farcical song to point it out
