Nixon suggesting on 16:30 - Jun 9 by Parky | Someone like this? Not someone who couldn’t even make Forest’s 25 man squad. FWIW, fully trust McKenna and co to get it right and it’s normally done behind the scenes, but the names being banded about at the moment are Championship signings. |
We are going to have to utilise the Championship quite heavily imo. It won't be easy to convince Prem players to come to a club that everyone will have as favourites for relegation. It's something that may count against us as far as Omari is concerned too, not so sure he would jump at the chance permanently.

What makes him better? Is it because he'd cost 15m rather than 3 or 4m? Can we afford 8-10 players at 15m each?

Longstaff is a good shout to be fair. As I say, it’s not because I don’t think O’Brien is a good player, as I think he’d suit us quite well, but just a big step up to the Prem now and think we need that bit more physicality in the middle there (and as Herb said, throughout the side really).

Ben Sheaf is PL standard, so would be a fantastic signing. Having Travis back would give us good options and strength in Midfield.

Ndidi replacement? (Out of Contract this summer) Decent player to pick up on a free wherever he decides to go...

It’s just my opinion, which of course means nothing in the grand scheme of things, but Longstaff has played almost 100 Prem games in the last 3 years and Champions League and the other couldn’t even make Forest’s squad. All just opinion, but I think we need Premier League experience in there, of course some players will step-up, but I don’t think we’ve got anyone in our current squad that’s played more than 5 games in the Prem. To re-iterate before I get shouted out, I have full faith that McKenna etc will get it right, just my thoughts on the latest link(s).

I got the consensus that Sheaf may be out of our range when reading Stuart Watson’s updates. (Which was quite alarming). I’d rather we went with El-Mizouni or Humphreys than Travis, none of which are nowhere near good enough for the Prem.

Firstly, nobody can shout you down for that assessment. Secondly, I think Travis is a step up from El Miz and Humps. I am only going on what I saw from him for us and Blackburn. A midfield of Morsy, Luongo, Taylor, Sheaf and Travis in our squad would give us all the options we will need. If Sheaf is out of our reach, then I would look elsewhere, but Sheaf is worth spending a chunk on. His value will only rise. Add Williams, Dier, Tanga, Hutch and Hamer to that and I really think we have plenty to stay up. [Post edited 9 Jun 2024 18:53]

Might not be that he's out of range so much as Coventry are asking for more than we are willing to pay. We need to improve the squad but if Cov were asking £15m plus for Sheaf, for example, then we are perhaps thinking that's more than we are willing to pay for what he brings.

Palace paid £18M for Adam Wharton from Blackburn. What's he worth now? Sheaf is quality and I would spend a good chunk of money on him.

Wharton is only 20 though so very easily going to be worth a lot more than they paid for him. Sheaf is going to be close to the top end of his value at 26, unless he has a truly remarkable first season in the Prem.

The point I was trying to make is that I think Sheaf is as good as Wharton, yet because he is in the Championship, is cheaper to buy.

I know. I may be slightly exaggerating, but I think Sheaf and Hamer would really improve us and if we can get those two and Eric Dier, then I have real confidence that we stay up.

Dier is at Bayern Munich currently, he'll have far better offers than us. I suspect Hamer will too.

If those are the midfield options next season, I'd say we're as good as relegated. The prem is a cometely different animal, I'm not even convinced Morsy or Luongo will be able to step up.

Nixon suggesting on 05:52 - Jun 10 with 1628 views | PioneerBlue | There does need to be some realism injected to these discussions. £15 million does not buy that much in terms of prem experienced players unless they are very inexperienced PL or end of career PL, it buys a lot more in the Champ but even there valuations are a bit ambiguous as we found last summer. Consensus is we need anywhere between 8-12 players, they are not all going to be £15m+ signings with PL experience. Nor is every rumour a real prospect. We know the club enquires on player prices to get a handle on market pricing before committing to targets which is likely where some rumours start. That all said, GK and CMf positions are areas we should be strengthening.

Leicester shouldn't be allowed to sign anybody - having cheated with an overly expensive squad for the past two seasons.

Nixon suggesting on 07:58 - Jun 10 with 1473 views | RobTheMonk | I'd be tempted by Kieran Tierney who looks like her might be off fairly cheap. Experience in abundance including international and Champions League. Would be good cover and competition for the left back role. Injuries have been a bit of an issue, but we know how well our medical staff have done with other players.

Forest paid £10million for him.... he was a starter, got ill and they signed two more players in the same postion as him whilst he was out of the side. Was set to go on loan to Blackburn Rovers, but they sent the wrong paperwork in so instead he went to the MLS as thier registration window was still open.... came back and they had signed (yet more) players in his postion and he wanted first team football.
