I mean I think it’s because you’d get a pile on from those that call people flag shaggers… but actually have the Palestinian flag on their twitter bio

Yep. I highlighted this previously with other clubs. It just opens them up to replies containing vile antisemitism from people who don't differentiate between Jews and the Israeli state. If replies were turned on there would be the usual "why are you supporting genocidal baby killers" or "From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free".

Yet weirdly I didn’t see a single ‘you must support Hamas’ when they posted at Ramadan etc. It’s almost like… ah fck it, can’t be bothered. Sad world innit

To be honest, you get loads of anti Muslim comments on there when they share Muslim events. Agree that it's a sad world though, and that people can't respectfully allow others to celebrate. I say that as a complete atheist with not even the tiniest religious belief myself. [Post edited 11 Jun 2024 15:06]

They only turn the comments off for Jewish holidays. Not a single negative reply

I’m just guessing here - if there had been a Muslim inspired attack a couple of days prior to that tweet then the number of negative replies would have been high. What with the Israeli-Palestinian war being constantly on the news then unfortunately a lot of idiots will take it upon themselves to post vile anti-Israel and anti-Semitic tweets. People can be vile.
Why would they turn the comments/replies off on 15:14 - Jun 11 with 2064 views | TRUE_BLUE123 | I think it is fairly obvious why. The replies would have a lot of antisemitism in it from silly people who cant differentiate rightful (imo) anger at the Israeli government and innocent Jewish people celebrating. But then i have seen horrific replies to posts about Ramadan, BLM, Pride month, Black history month etc from all over the political spectrum. Now we are in the Prem with more eyes on us and more traffic to our tweets. I think we will see comments turned off for those events possibly. Twitter is just a cesspit of hate. Left, right, center, labor, Tory, Republicans, Democrats, MAGA, Christians, Jewish, Muslims. All of them. Not a shred of kindness or understanding. Tired of it. Considering religion is supposed to make people kinder, it does anything but. I'm just here to talk football where we can all agree that Town is the best club in the world. Possibly universe. :)

Wrong again. The comments were turned off for Passover as well. It's only the Jewish holidays where comments are turned off. It has been like that fr some time. It's because of antisemitic abuse that follows the Jewish holiday tweets around. You may recall that I posted about this in 2022 when Liverpool FC sent out a happy Yom Kippur tweet and the replies were full of antisemitism.

I'm not sure that's quite the case: Different platform, but the Facebook posts in particular, celebrating Ramadan and Eid, were a real vipers' nest of hatred. The usual responses along the lines of "I didn't see you celebrating Christmas/Easter/*insert minor saint here*'s Day", mixed in with the usual right-wing hate that gets attached to pretty much any social media post referencing Islam these days.
