Just seen that Alastair Campbell's daughter, Grace Campbell, has pulled out of Latitude because its sponsor, Barclays, "profits from Israel's genocide in Gaza". Wait util she finds out what her dad did. [Post edited 14 Jun 2024 20:02]

Pretty sure that some paint splattered on some buildings isn't as bad as thousands of dead children.

Pretty sure that damaging buildings whilst harassing and abusing Barclays employees and customers isn’t going to bring a single dead child back to life or stop another senseless death. Our government sells arms to a Israel should we target everyone who works for the state? In New York protesters have targeted a cancer hospital because it had received a donation from a “Zionist “ billionaire. Should that happen here seeing as the UK government is selling arms to Israel? Where do we draw the line? Barclays doesn’t invest in companies selling arms to Israel. They provide corporate banking for arms companies. The same arms companies who are selling weapons to Israel and NATO countries who in turn are providing some of those arms to defend Ukraine against Putin. If only life was as black and white. Its isn’t. The targeting of Barclays is just another example of the violence, harassment and abuse that seems to have taken over our streets since October 7th. We’ve seen women and kids harassed and abused in McDonalds and Starbucks. Shop owners having their windows smashed because they sell Coca Cola. Synagogues firebombed. Jewish neighbourhoods vandalised. Jewish kids harassed going to and from school. I’m sure you’re not ok with any of this. [Post edited 16 Jun 2024 8:32]

Looks like a particularly good job well done. Edit... Comedian Duker had shared a photo of her at a previous Latitude Festival, and confirmed she would be boycotting the event. She wrote: "I am committed to minimising my complicity in what I consider to be a pattern of abhorrent, unlawful violence". The 34-year-old comedian also said her pro-Palestinian stance "has gained me violent abuse, targeted pile-ons and death threats". [Post edited 16 Jun 2024 8:48]

It makes far more sense to protest about our government's policy towards Israel (which apparently won't change after the General Election, according to Starmer).

Barclays drops sponsorship of a number of music festivals. on 11:13 - Jun 16 with 5330 views | DJR | On the more general point about boycotts, I would rather boycott something, or support a boycott, based on my take on things, rather than be influenced by bandwagons. For example, I have not bought a Murdoch newspaper since the early 1980s (I used to buy the Times). Nor have I signed up to Sky because of his ownership of it. Of course my individual action makes no difference to Murdoch, but from my point of view, I would rather that none of my money goes towards his profits. When it comes to Barclays, I have had an account with Barclays since the 1970s (although no longer my main current account), and throughout the apartheid times there were campaigns to boycott Barclays. For my own part, and as an opponent of apartheid, I didn't see Barclays as having much more of a role in South Africa than other banks or organisations, so couldn't necessarily see why Barclays was being singled out. As a result I continued banking with Barclays. The same appears to be true of the current situation, given how limited and non-exclusive the involvement of Barclays appears to be, so once again, I would not even contemplate closing my account. Nor do I support what appears to me to be a misinformed bandwagon. https://www.theguardian.com/business/article/2024/jun/14/attacks-on-barclays-put Finally, when it comes to apartheid, it seems that the sporting boycott played the biggest part, which I fully supported. How true. What sort of scumbags target the Nova exhibition commemorating victims of festival massacre? https://www.thejc.com/news/usa/barbaric-anti-israel-protesters-target-nyc-nova-e And then target the homes of the director of the Brooklyn Museum and Jewish board members in response to hosting the Nova exhibition. Utter scum.

I think my sister (and others) boycotted Outspan oranges because of their South African connection. A friend of mine refused to drink Argentinian wine because he disapproved of the manner in which the Argentinian government had defaulted on its debts.

There was certainly more reason for boycotting produce from South Africa, and from recollection I did so myself.

I said it because I felt like it. I’m fed up now seeing the Palestinian supporters smashing up banks/buildings over here showing their support for a war thousands of miles away, which I doubt would have happened if they’d not been barbaric scum bags in the first place. I care very little what you think about that. Even though I’m sure you’ll tell me
