Rio Ferdinand said Bellingham is intimating to other players. 23:35 - Jun 16 with 3424 views | Mercian | Or words to that effect particularly in regard to Foden who is meek in comparison. Does anyone think he needs to step back a little in that respect?
Rio Ferdinand said Bellingham is intimating to other players. on 23:42 - Jun 16 with 3362 views | StokieBlue | I don't think that's quite what he said, he said he demands the ball which given he's playing substantially better than everyone else is the right thing to do. Why would you want our best player to stop doing what he's doing at the moment? SB

Rio Ferdinand said Bellingham is intimating to other players. on 08:18 - Jun 17 with 2908 views | Marshalls_Mullet | I think Foden needs to be at No10 and Bellingham needs to be at No8. I doubt Foden is intimidated by anyone.

Bellingham is playing on one of his favoured positions, Foden is not. Hence Foden is less able to perform at his best.

Doesn't he regularly play in that position for City? SB

No I would say at City he plays the No10 role and given the freedom to move across the pitch. For England (yesterday) he was playing more as a left winger, fixed to the wing. But Bellingham also prefers No.10

I think foden will be fine in that position if there's a competent LB behind him. Trippier offered nothing.

Not really, far more utilised at No10, where he has 18 goals and 4 assists since the New Year.

In 2024 Fodens return at No10 has been far better than Bellinghams. Moreover we desperately need Bellinghams influence at No8. Imagine JB bossing centre mid and feeding Foden!!

For the first 20 minutes he was moving all over the pitch. Agree he stayed left after that. SB
Rio Ferdinand said Bellingham is intimating to other players. on 09:10 - Jun 17 with 2614 views | rickw | It was more of a 433 (or maybe 4321) last night with Bellingham more on the left of a 3 man midfield which worked out pretty well as I was concerned with Foden and Trippier constantly coming inside and nobody on the left. Foden will have a better chance of doing well when he has Shaw overlapping him, but he still hasn't really repeated his club form for England, hopefully it'll come

When you look at the available England qualified left backs Leif really should have been called up to the pre tournament friendlies to have a look at it. When you look at what England need from their left back, of available players I would say Leif is probably only behind Shaw in terms of the width they offer and attacking threat. As you said having a proper wing back overlapping would have changed things completely for Foden.

There's plenty of options ahead of Leif, all of which have Prem experience.

It was very frustrating watching Trippier having to keep cutting back to his right foot. You couldn't help but feel that a natural left footer would have been more beneficial. I think it is a very fair point that this may have helped Foden. I think he prefers having the fluidity from the central position but what do you do when you have Bellingham putting in performances like that?!
Absolutely not on 09:30 - Jun 17 with 2472 views | Dyland | Everyone else needs to step up, not that that's an easy task. Bellingham is ridiculously good and if he keeps his head straight will be one of the greats. Zidanesque.

I think the only fit English left back playing in the premier league who realistically is above him in the pecking order is Tyrick Mitchell at Palace, any other option would be someone like Colwill or Dan Burns who are really centre backs. I know players don't get picked from the championship, but with the analytics and everything they have now you would think they might occasionally take a risk on someone who looks to have everything needed to step up, particularly when the profile of player needed in that position for England is quite rigid, you need a left footer who can constantly offer on the overlap, with the stamina to get up and down all game.

Yes I agree. The scary/exciting thing is that Zidane didn't play for the senior France team until he was 22. He then went on to make 108 appearances for France over 12 years. Whereas Bellingham is still only 20 and has made 30 appearances for England. He's already a leader, both by example and in other ways, and seems mature beyond his years. Even Finidi George's years! I mean there are certain artistic things that Zidane could do, and chose to do, with the ball that maybe Bellingham won't have in his locker, but the fact that he's already being mentioned in that category at his age is incredible. Technique, strength, intelligence, leadership, enough pace. And having learned from top coaches in more than one European league, he will have a broad base to his football education that will surely help in the major tournaments against a variety of different footballing nations.
