How many of you were there at the final game vs Liverpool? 13:41 - Jun 18 with 3554 viewstextbackup

I know I was… and didn’t even consider the next time we’d play them that I’d have got married, had 2 kids, moved 3/4 times, and would be touching 40, older than our manager!

I was.

Married, 1 child, moved once, complete u-turn on my career. We Saturday at a family members b&b for the weekend, ran out of money for beer in the pub. Sadly the b&b owner is no longer with us.

My son is going into year 10. We plan on doing all the away games this season, if it's another 20odd years before we get to do them again he won't want to go with his mum and I'll be old!

Yep, went dressed in fancy dress in a bright orange 70s suit and curly wig.

Bumped into Marcus Stewart and Alun Armstrong soon after and they could remember seeing me in the crowd.

It was the season George Burley made the biggest mistake of his otherwise excellent Town manageial career signing Mattio Serini ,sorry still can't spell, our most costly signing still in more ways than one ! He was such a disruptive figure in the changing room . We lost heavily of course and its taken 22 years to return . I watched it with my son as I always do he is now late 40's his birthday is 17th August when we play Lpool again very emotional for us and maybe many other Town fans . We are both still season ticket holders and still love our visits to Portman Rd .COYB's

Yes, clear as day on the club DVD in the crowd shots before kick off.

I was there. Really don’t remember much about it other than it being a miserable end to a miserable season.

I do recall a car of Norwich supporters taking the p!ss out of us on the way there as they were travelling to their play off final in Cardiff. The real danger was that we would be swapping places that weekend. Fortunately Darryl Sutch saw to that.

I was watching the scores and the results come in through a TV shop window.

I was there, the atmosphere was surprisingly upbeat. Not sure it would have been had we known it would be 22 years until we returned.

So Sereni, who was one of our best (and busiest) players in the first half of that season, was a bigger mistake than signing Andy "flapper" Marshall?

Sereni wasn't a big issue and wasn't a disruptive presence either. The only note of concern was that he wanted a mid-winter break like he had been used to and wasn't allowed. Had originally been heavily linked with Mart Poom whi would have been a better fit than either Marshall or Sereni? Big mistake by Richard Wright leaving though I expect his financial advisors thought it a good one.

It was a very strange game. In the first half hour, we attacked with purpose, had the lion's share of the game but every time Liverpool got the ball, they broke quickly & seemed to score.

I was there. Thought it would be a blip.
We’ve really endured some mediocrity in the interim period haven’t we.
What’s important is we’re back now and ready to cement our place.
It’s the hope that gets you…

rumour was we wouldnt pay Poom his wage demands, Marshall was always signed as the 2nd keeper, Wright was always going thanks to Jonathan Barnett.

it was Sven who recommended Sereni, Sheepshanks wanted a keeper with "euro" experience for a UEFA campaign. Im not really sure how much say George had in it. maybe this new book will enlighten us more.

I just remember that last Liverpool game as we took Gerrard out in a tackle youd probably get sent off for now, injured him and he missed the world cup that year.

Yep, the main pic in the star was me and a mate clapping off the Town “looking devastated post defeat…” which we were, BUT the photo was taken pre match and reflected the fact that we’d come straight from an utterly brutal 19th birthday party in London. We’d got the first train, and I’d managed to regurgitate a strawberry frijj over a large portion of the facilities 😬 devastating hang over would be far more accurate.
